Our very own Hunter Rice is on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of San Diego. We recently attended their annual Evening of Changing Lives which raises money for the clubs in San Diego County. It was a beautiful evening and huge for the club! With a new partnership with the Padres, they raised well over their target!

We love being a part of this organization and giving back to the kids of San Diego 🤎

We were recently asked by Apartment Therapy to weigh in on splatter ware!

We loved sharing our thoughts on the trend and why we’re drawn to its organic, imperfect nature. With its playful patterns and beautiful color variations, splatterware is an effortless way to introduce color, texture, and personality into a space without overwhelming the design.

A little nostalgic, a little unexpected, and perfectly imperfect. We’re here for it!

Thank you Apartment Therapy for including us in the conversation!

We believe the design process should feel exciting—not leave you wondering what your next invoice will be.

That’s why we keep our design pricing straightforward with a flat-rate design fee per room, agreed upon before we begin. No hourly billing and no guessing what you’ll be charged each month.

Our design fee covers everything needed to thoughtfully develop your space—from technical floor plans and elevations to realistic 3D renderings and sourcing every material and detail. Countertops, cabinetry, tile, plumbing, lighting, hardware, switch plates…and everything in between.

But our designers’ involvement doesn’t end when construction begins.

Our design team stays involved throughout the construction phase to ensure the original design intent is carried through to the finished space. We’re on site reviewing details, inspecting materials to ensure they arrive in pristine condition, and making finish selections that require field verification before they can be finalized.

Because no matter how much we plan ahead, construction happens in the real world—and sometimes the best design decision can only be made standing in the space.

It’s one of our favorite parts of the design-build model: the team who creates the vision stays involved in bringing it to life.

One team. One cohesive vision. From the first floor plan to the final cabinet k**b.

The goal is to make as many decisions as possible before construction begins, giving you a clear vision of your finished home and giving our construction team a detailed roadmap to bring it to life.

Your bathroom remodel doesn’t have to be a cautionary tale. When you skip design upfront, you’re not saving money-you’re just deferring it to mid-project change orders, layout regrets, and a space that doesn’t actually work for how you live. A designer from day one prevents that trap. Let’s talk about how design-first remodeling works differently for your bathroom.

Behind Rice Design & Build

Construction and real estate have been part of our lives long before Rice Design & Build existed. Hunter grew up in his family’s custom home-building business in Texas, while Charlotte grew up in her family’s real estate development business—both experiencing construction firsthand from an early age.

When we started dating in 2019, we talked about the dream of one day creating projects of our own. Fast forward a few years, and here we are—designing and building beautiful spaces for incredible clients alongside a team we genuinely love working with.

Building a team is one of the most exciting (and intimidating!) parts of growing a business, and we truly couldn’t do what we do without these faces. From design and project management to construction coordination and client support, there are thousands of details happening behind the scenes every day to bring each project to life.

And our team extends far beyond this photo. We work with an incredibly talented group of craftsmen and trades throughout San Diego. Over the years, Hunter has built a trusted network of cabinetmakers, plumbers, electricians, tile setters, painters and more who share our commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

What started as a dream years ago has become something we’re incredibly proud to keep building.

We’re so grateful for our team, our trades, our clients—and all of you following along as Rice Design & Build continues to grow.

Coastal, but make it interesting. Teal zellige paired with natural pebble stone brings the perfect mix of color, movement and organic texture—while an integrated bench and shampoo ledge keep the design feeling intentional and seamless.

Open shelving, but make it functional. The perfect spot for favorite cookbooks, special serveware and pretty glassware. And an excuse to restyle it every season… or every week 😉
