Santee project is almost wrapped up and the tile is looking absolutely beautiful.

Final touches going in right now and the result is exactly what this customer deserved. Every detail done the right way from start to finish.

Part 2 — resolved. But not before it got worse.

Five days of stop work on a fully permitted project. We fought for the homeowners anyway.

Multiple trips to the city assessors office. Back and forth for days over a misspelled name and a mismatched signature. We finally got the notice. The area was permitted all along. All of that for absolutely nothing.

Then the inspector came back, approved the rough electrical and plumbing, and immediately demanded a physical drywall inspection before allowing work to continue. Refused our photos. Told us to set the team up and wait.

We were almost losing it. We stayed composed. You catch more flies with honey.

One day inspection. Five day ordeal. Not a single penny charged to the customer.

Story time. And this one is going to make your blood boil a little.

We were doing a simple like for like kitchen remodel in Santee for an elderly couple. Nothing complicated. Tear out the old. Put in the new. Upgrade the electrical and plumbing while we were at it. We pulled a permit like we always do because our customers deserve the reassurance that the work was done correctly.

Inspector comes in. Gives us a few small corrections. No problem. We take care of them. He comes back the next day and then out of nowhere mid-inspection he looks at a non-load bearing wall and tells us he does not think it was permitted.

The homeowners bought the house like that. They told him. He did not care.

He threatened to put a stop work order on the entire project. Told them they would have to apply for an as-built permit with the city which could keep an elderly couple without a kitchen for a full year.

We told them we would fight for them. And that is exactly what we did.
