Sometimes a haircut just won't cut it.

While we love saving trees,

here are 5 signs that removal is the safest choice for your property:

The trunk is hollow or has deep cavities.

There are large, dead limbs throughout the canopy.

You see fungus or mushrooms growing at the base.

The tree has a sudden, dangerous lean.

Deep cracks are splitting the main trunk.

Our team assesses these risks to keep your home protected from falling hazards. It is much more fun to enjoy your yard when you have total peace of mind that your property is safe!

✂️🌳 One of the quickest ways to weaken a branch over time is not the wind… it’s bad pruning cuts.
⁣
Two common culprits:
⁣
Flush cuts (cutting too close to the trunk)
⁣
Stubs (leaving a long piece sticking out)
⁣
Why it matters:
✅ Flush cuts remove the tree’s natural “healing zone” and can make it harder for the tree to seal the wound.
✅ Stubs often die back, crack, and become an easy entry point for decay.
✅ Both can lead to weaker attachments, hidden rot, and higher break risk down the road.
⁣
What you want instead is a clean, correct cut that protects the branch collar and supports proper sealing.

🐛🦠 Pests or disease?
⁣
They can look similar at first, but there are a few quick clues that point you in the right direction.
⁣
Common pest signs:
✅ Chewed leaves or holes
✅ Sticky residue or black soot-like buildup on leaves
✅ Webbing, clusters, or visible insects
✅ Sawdust-like material near bark
⁣
Common disease signs:
✅ Spots, blotches, or unusual patterns on leaves
✅ Wilting even when watering seems normal
✅ Branch dieback starting at tips
✅ Mushrooms or fungus growth near the base or on the trunk
⁣
The best next step is a proper diagnosis. CM Precision has an ISA Certified Arborist for tree health assessments and a Qualified Applicator License to apply treatments for insects, fungal issues, and fertilization when appropriate.

🌱 That stump might look harmless… until it becomes a tripping spot, a mower obstacle, or the reason you can’t use that part of your yard.
⁣
What to expect with stump grinding:
✅ We grind the stump down below the surface
✅ You’re left with wood chips that can be hauled away or reused as mulch
✅ The area becomes easier to level, replant, or prep for new landscaping
⁣
Why it matters:
• Frees up usable space
• Makes mowing and edging easier
• Helps clean up the look of your yard
• Reduces places pests like to hide

🌳 Sometimes the safest trim is… no trim at all.
⁣
There are moments when removal is the safer choice, especially when a tree is no longer structurally sound.
⁣
Here are 5 reasons removal may be safer than trimming:
⁣
► Major trunk decay or a hollow-sounding base
⁣
► Root problems like heaving soil, lifting, or a new lean
⁣
► Large cracks or splitting where the tree is under stress
⁣
► Severe storm damage or broken major limbs
⁣
► High targets nearby like your roof, driveway, or power lines
⁣
If you’re not sure which direction is safest, CM Precision can help. We have an ISA Certified Arborist and TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification) to evaluate hazard and recommend the right next step.

⚠️ 6 signs a tree limb is becoming a hazard🌳
⁣
• Hanging or sagging that looks new
⁣
• Dead wood (no leaves when the rest of the tree is full)
⁣
• Peeling bark or a hollow sound when gently tapped
⁣
• Mushrooms or fungus growing on the branch or at the attachment point
⁣
• Rubbing branches (they scrape each other in wind and weaken over time)
⁣
If a branch is over your roof, driveway, or a favorite “hangout spot” in the yard, these are the clues you do not want to ignore.
⁣
Cracks or splits in the limb or where it connects to the trunk
⁣
⁣
If you spot one or more of these, CM Precision can assess it safely and recommend the right next step.
⁣
We have an ISA Certified Arborist and an ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) for evaluating hazardous trees and risk.

⚠️ Deep cracks in bark are not a “wait and see” moment.🌳
⁣
If you’re noticing new or widening cracks running down the trunk,
it can signal stress or structural weakness inside the tree.
⁣
Sometimes it’s harmless,
but sometimes it’s the early warning before a bigger failure,
especially after wind, heavy rain, or sudden temperature swings.
⁣
What to watch for:
✅ Cracks that look deeper than the surface
✅ A seam that’s getting longer over time
✅ Bulging wood around the crack
✅ Nearby dead branches or a thinning canopy
✅ A lean that looks new
⁣
If you’re seeing deep cracks, CM Precision can help with a professional evaluation.
⁣
We have an ISA Certified Arborist and an ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) to assess risk and recommend the safest next step.
