A look back at a major project in San Diego’s Fashion Valley.

Our team placed approximately 17,000 cubic yards of concrete for this 320,000-square-foot podium structure, supporting 316 residential units above two levels of parking and two podium decks.

Proud of the craftsmanship and coordination our team brought to this project. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen.

A fun fact: the Meier family has placed all 3 structures against the hillside along this section of Friars!

Another milestone at Riverwalk. 🏗️

Our crews are working across all three active areas of the project today:

▪️ Section 1 — Pouring the suspended slab at B1
▪️ Section 2 — Shoring the next suspended slab at L1
▪️ Section 3 — Grading and preparing for our third and final slab-on-grade pour next week

From slab-on-grade to elevated structure, we’re utilizing every available work front to keep the project and schedule moving forward.

Great job to our entire team for making today’s pour date, and thank you to all of our project partners for the coordination and teamwork that keeps Riverwalk progressing.

4:00 AM start at Commons Lane. 🌅

Our team is underway on the second of two slab-on-grade placements, with approximately 250 cubic yards scheduled for today’s pour.

Completing both building slabs ahead of the upcoming El Niño season is an important milestone as we continue pushing the project forward. On a tight, active site at The Commons at Calabasas, early-morning pours help us maintain schedule while minimizing disruption to the surrounding businesses, customers, and pedestrians.

Great work by our field team and project partners coordinating the logistics to keep things moving.

First slab-on-grade placement underway at The Commons Lane in Calabasas.

With the project located inside an active Caruso shopping center, early-morning pours and careful coordination are essential to maintaining progress while minimizing disruptions to customers, pedestrians, and neighboring businesses.

This is the first of two SOG sections—and next week, we begin moving vertically.

Two projects. Two major milestones.

Last week, our team completed the podium pour at CHW Serra Mesa in San Diego, bringing our concrete scope to substantial completion.

We also recently poured the remaining stem walls and mat slab at HVN Kenmore in Los Angeles, marking substantial completion of our scope there as well.

Meier Concrete has completed scopes ranging from multi-building projects exceeding 35,000 cubic yards to focused structural projects of approximately 300 cubic yards. With our new and growing Tenant Improvement Division, we now execute scopes as small as 3 cubic yards.

Another milestone at The Commons Lane in Calabasas. Today, our team is placing the final slab for Building B, the metal pan deck slab on Level 2, bringing the project’s retail portion closer to completion.

Our focus will now shift to Building A—a new apartment podium structure replacing the former movie theater. Meier Concrete’s scope includes two levels of concrete parking and the podium slab supporting the wood-framed structure above.

This is our first project with Layton Construction. Together with Layton and the ownership team, we’ve worked through the unique challenges that come with getting a major concrete structure out of the ground.

With approximately 5,500 cubic yards of concrete and nearly 120,000 square feet of slabs in our overall scope, there is plenty of work ahead. We’re looking forward to moving vertical in September and driving Building A through the podium.

Riverwalk is off to the races.

Meier Concrete is proud to be helping build one of San Diego’s largest and most transformative developments. We are partnering once again with our longtime client Milender White—our fourth project together.

Meier is one of three structural concrete contractors selected for Riverwalk’s first phase. Largo Concrete completed Building C, GYC (Yocom, Inc.) is constructing Buildings A and B, and Meier Concrete is delivering Building D and the Retail Village.

Our scope includes approximately 150,000 square feet of slabs and more than 8,000 cubic yards of concrete.

Our team is completing foundations and vertical concrete work as we prepare for our first slab-on-grade placement later this week. From there, we’ll continue racing toward the podium slab—with the project currently tracking well ahead of our contract schedule.

We appreciate Milender White’s continued trust in our team and are proud to work alongside the other contractors helping bring this major development to life.
