See the beetle larva? Even tough trees can hide serious problems! This hackberry had a forked trunk and included bark, leading to decay and beetle infestations. Luckily, our team safely removed it before it became a hazard. πŸŒ³πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ” It takes a trained eye to spot the subtle signs of tree decay. Our Certified Arborist Lucas Rumancik, safely secured about 50 feet high in this red oak, identified a weakened branch that posed a potential hazard and removed it. Expert tree care keeps your trees healthy, and your property protected! Lean more about this Triple-Trunk Tree Care project on our blog:

Canopy Crew has got the concept of teamwork down to a science. This Post Oak located in Bulverde was killed by borer beetles. After we took the tree down, we injected the other trees on the property with beetle poison to prevent further deaths. Because of the proximity of the neighbor's trees, it was necessary for us to treat those as well. The first video below is a time lapse video of three crew members removing the tree canopy. The last step was removal of the trunk.

RIP beautiful Live Oak. The tree trimmers at Canopy Tree Service expressed sadness when they learned today they would be taking out a majestic very old live oak tree that has shaded Orsinger Road for generations. Unfortunately, needed improvements to drainage and sewer required us to take the tree out.

This large, healthy live oak had to be removed for a roadway construction project on Orsinger Lane today. A great deal of planning goes into such a large removal. The weight and lean of the tree as well as proximity to power lines and houses had to be considered. To ensure the safety of others, Orsinger Lane was closed down. Canopy Tree Service tree climbers entered the tree to remove secondary tree branches first. Then the logs from those branches were placed into the roadway to cushion the impact of the tree trunk as it landed on the road. The main trunk was "pre-cut" to encourage a breaking apart in pieces upon falling. Rigging ropes were attached to the tree to control the tree descent. As the time drew closer for the tree trunk to come down all tree care workers not directly involved in the removal were moved a safe distance away from the "drop zone." This voter-approved construction project will result in an improved sewer system and improved drainage. San Antonio residents and commercial customers have been trusting Canopy Tree Service with dangerous removals for more than 25 years.

Oak wilt is a toxic fungus that can kill an otherwise healthy tree in less than a month. Fortunately there is medicine that can help strengthen the trees defenses if applied early. Canopy Tree Service delivers medicine to the base of the tree.

Trees suffering from oak wilt have leaves with a veinal necrosis. The tree takes on a yellowish color and the ground has fallen leaves below. Quick action is essential.

Office tenants are attracted to green landscaping and sign visibility. Our commercial tree trimming at Union Square accomplishes that goal.

Winter Storm Uri provided an unusually long and cold period of freezing conditions that scarred much of our beautiful landscape here in Central Texas.
Pictured here is a Huisache tree impacted by the cold that would normally be green in May. Huisache trees typically bloom in January and this early blooming made it particularly vulnerable to the late March cold snap. Only time will tell if we have lost the majority of our Huisache trees, but thus far, the outlook for the Huisache trees is not good.
If you have a Huisache tree that looks like this one and would like an opinion as to whether it should come down, please contact us to evaluate your tree.

To remove a tree, our skilled climbers typically begin at the top of the tree and remove the limbs and trunk in sections.
Being comfortable working at heights and knowledge of safety equipment is critical to our climber's success.

It is rare that Canopy Tree Service trucks are off the roads during storms. Usually, our crews are assisting customers with fallen trees. This time, a rare weather event has made it unsafe to bring our heavy trucks out. Our phones are still answered 24/7, but our work must be delayed until the roads are free of ice patches.

Training is an essential part of Canopy Tree Service safety plan. Here a new climber is receiving hands on instruction from Bruno, a veteran tree climber, in how to suit up with harness and ropes and how to safely enter the tree with ropes to keep from falling out of the tree. The ropes used in tree climbing are very different than the ropes one might see used by someone who set up a recreational river rope swing. They have a tensile strength between approximately 5,600 and 7,400 pounds and that makes them able to safely hold a climber who looses his balance and plunges out of the tree falling at a high rate of speed.
