We adopted Sandy from the San Antonio Great Dane Rescue - Saspca after she had spent about a year in foster care. She was the only dog not bouncing around trying to get everyone’s attention. She just sat there quietly, and somehow I knew she was ours.
I remember crying in the car afterward because I wanted her so badly. The timing wasn’t “right.” My parents didn’t want dogs in the house, where we were living while we waited to close on our first home, but they bent the rules for Sandy. Looking back, I think she was always meant to be part of our family.
She instantly fell in love with Caleb, and eventually she even came around to Marcus… although he’ll forever be able to say he’s the only person she ever bit. ❤️
Sandy was with us through so many chapters of life. When Clarky came along, something about her changed. She adored him, and it was so special watching them grow up together.
She loved going to the lake and the beach… just not actually getting in the water. She was happiest feeling the breeze, exploring the shoreline, and being with her people.
The house feels so much quieter now. We still catch ourselves looking for her in all her favorite spots, and we’re feeling her absence every single day. Her little sister, Zelda, especially seems to know something is missing.
Thank you, Sandy, for every goofy smile, every adventure, and every moment you gave us. Thank you for choosing us, and for letting us love you.
