“Coffee with the Creatures” should be the title of a mini-series on my channel. Today it was the armadillo, but sometimes it’s the gray fox, opossum, great horned owl, raccoon, or skunk. They all have their own predictable arrival windows, routes, and routines, and it’s truly never been a problem to coexist. The armadillo has never plowed up my plants (knock on wood!); she fluffs up my mulch, and the next time I walk by, I kick her little divots closed with my shoe — no big deal.

Vesta Crescent looks like a stained glass project. After the rain in San Antonio, it was surprisingly nice to be outside tidying up the yard this morning. A lot of my sunflowers were falling over in a jumbled mess after the storms, so I cut most of them to the ground, but left the most upright ones standing for the finches and bordered patch butterfly caterpillars to enjoy.

Baby Bewick’s wrens in the lamppost. Their parents have been working from dawn to dusk delivering bugs, and the babies are getting big. I’m watching for them to fledge any day now.
