I found out today I am an "Ass Hole"! A customer of mine called today and informed me that he had a heater system malfunction. I said "okay, I'm an electrician?". He then informed me that his A/C / Plumber was there troubleshooting it and didn't understand why his voltage was 'all over the place'. 70 volts, 170 volts, 300 volts, etc... I offered to come out and told him he really needed a new HVAC guy! You see, I explained that there is NOTHING inside the home that can alter voltage like that! The problem is either with the HVAC unit or the power company. ...and if the power company has a problem it's going to affect SOMETHING else. Well, this pissed off the HVAC guy and he tried to prove me wrong. Guess what? Turns out it was a faulty voltage regulator on the heater unit. $430 later the problem was solved. I waived my fees! If it were me, I wouln't charge the customer! Check me out at http://www.atoparok.com/

Education is important folks!

A customer called and complained of her brand new home was tripping breakers. She was convinced the whole home was wired incorrectly. I assure her we will take care of any problem she may have and dropped in for a visit. Seems everything works fine, but her Keurig Hot Brew tripped breakers. No matter where she plugged it in. I inspect the circuits, 4 of them, and all check fine, but they are CAFIC breakers. (Arc-Fault breaker) They are required virtually everywhere in homes these days except garages and bathrooms. So I gave her CAFIC documentation and informed her there must be an issue with the Keurig.

She purchased a new one to only experience the same problem. I contact Square D, the breaker manufacturer and Keurig requesting some input. Square D acknowledges there have been some problems with certain Keurigs and had redesigned a breaker to accept the Keurigs in question. It's experimental and is not available yet, but they will send me one.

Keurig on the other hand ignored my first request, so I filled out their online report form where I stated who I was and that I was in New Mexico and explained the issue. Below is the response I received:

Dear Dan,

Thanks for contacting us. Our brewers are currently designed for 120 volts only, and they are U.L. approved for the U.S. and Canada. At this time, the brewers cannot be used outside of these countries, and doing so may affect the warranty.

We are always a phone call or mouse click away so please don’t hesitate to reach out with any further questions.

Sincerely,

Tasheka W.

OK, we are dug out enough to help if you need it, but with over a foot of snow in the driveway, we intend on limiting our road travel to emergencies. Should you have trouble, look first for a tripped GFCI receptacle, then check your breakers. Keep in mind that many breakers trip to a mid-way position and have to be turned to the "off" position and then back to "on." ...and remember, we are just around the corner!

Important electrical information. I took this out of a local residence. Could have resulted in a fire. Look at your electrical panel. If it says FPE, Federal Pacific, Sylvania, Zinsco or if you have a fuse panel, call an electrician. These are all potentially dangerous.
