FRONT PATIO TRANSFORMATION — PART 2 OF 4

With the water problem corrected and the new concrete pads completed by others, it was time to begin shaping the new front courtyard.

Bob personally completed every phase shown here. The work began by laying out and building the new entry structure, carefully establishing the dimensions and elevations for what would follow. From there, the masonry block walls were constructed to define the courtyard and create a solid foundation for the finish materials and custom features still to come.

This stage required careful planning so the entry, walls and surrounding spaces would work together as one finished space—not simply look like separate additions.

Next in Part 3: installing the tile, stonework and custom details that transformed the structure into a finished outdoor space.

FRONT PATIO TRANSFORMATION — PART 1 OF 4

What looked like a finished front entry was hiding a serious water problem.

Ironman Home Restoration had previously installed the stone tile and railings over an existing concrete entry. Over time, it became clear that the underlying concrete had been poured in a way that directed water toward the house, causing damage to the wall and allowing moisture into the basement.

We removed the tile and railings so the original concrete could be removed and replaced by others with a properly configured single-slab base. Once the new slab was in place, we opened the affected wall, removed the damaged materials and completed the repairs needed before rebuilding the entrance.

Correcting the source of the problem came first. From that sound starting point, this entry would grow into a completely redesigned front courtyard.

Next in Part 2: building the structure that shaped the new courtyard.

A new look built on solid repairs.

For this deck project, we removed the existing wood decking, railings and damaged stairs to prepare for new composite decking and modern railings.

Once everything was opened up, we repaired areas of rot in the framing and added the structural support needed to meet the specifications for the new decking. After completing those repairs and updates, we installed the composite decking, new railings and stairs, then painted the remaining sided section to coordinate with the new deck color.

The finished result is a cleaner, more modern outdoor space built on properly repaired and reinforced framing.
