Thank You and Happy New Years!
This is another floating deck we built. The homeowner has two dogs and the area under the deck was nothing but mud. They wanted some way to get out of the mud. We built a 12’x20’ deck. The ramp allows them to get the snowblower on and off the deck for storage under the upper deck. The ramp was not extended any further because of a swell from the neighbors yard that brings water through this yard. Again this decking is Trex in the color saddle.
This is a floating deck we built. The homeowner wanted to utilize the shade under the existing deck. We installed a retaining wall on the left so the water coming down the hill wouldn’t wash dirt over the deck. The original paver patio was about a third covered in dirt. We left the front open and sloped the dirt between the joists out to the front for water drainage. We installed 1/4” hardware cloth over the openings to keep out unwanted critters. The flooring is Trex in the color saddle. The deck is about 12’ at the house and 16’ at the front and about 12’ coming out from the house. Contact us for a deck quote.
This is a recent project we finished. The homeowner wanted the front porch to be open instead of being closed in like a sunroom. The windows weren’t in the best of shape and dated the house. We removed all the windows and walls on the porch along with all the siding on the front of the house. New siding and soffit was installed along with the new posts and railing. In the future the homeowner to have a family member install a concrete walk and steps where there is no railing in the front. Not a major project but definitely changed the looks of the house.
The pictures below are from an addition we finished a while ago. I’m always behind on posting completed projects. This was a 1200 square foot addition. We removed the roof from an existing addition and added a second floor and a lot more. KLS would be happy to help design an addition to meet your needs.
This is a 12’x20’ deck we just finished. Composite flooring with vinyl railing. We also put white composite boards around the band board to dress it up. New rails were installed at the basement entrance as well. Mailbox is just temporary to hold plans.
This is a project we just finished. We removed the two story wall almost completely. The lower room we removed the walls as well. KLS had to start from the ground up to support the wall. The original was sinking and crushing the patio doors. We installed footers then built new walls that were level and plumb. New windows were then installed. We finished off with new siding that is a very close match to the existing. Look below for more info on this project.
KLS constructed this horse run-in at a nearby farm. It’s 12’ x 39’.
This is an addition we finished. I forget the before pictures a lot. So this is once we got started framing the addition. There was nothing on the back of the house when we started. We enlarged the kitchen by removing 12’ of wall in the original house. We also added a laundry room and bathroom. KLS designed the addition along with the homeowners. They already had rough plans of what they wanted. Check out the below pictures to see how it turned out.
Just a quick project to help a customer.
Years ago near the start of the business me and Dad installed the new roof on this garage. The old roof left in a lot of birds. So the before pictures show a lot of bird droppings over everything. The owners wanted to clean out the garage so they could use it for there car. KLS helped clean out all of the unwanted items. Once everything was removed the whole inside was pressure washed top to bottom. All items being kept were washed as well and then put back in. Once cleaned a new garage door was installed. Sorry no pics of the new door.
This is before and after pictures of a kitchen we did a while back. Removed the doorway, removed all of the wall paper, repaired drywall, painted and had new flooring installed.
This is a deck we finished the first of August. Composite flooring with vinyl rail. We installed a 6x6 border and filled with river rock. This made it nice for the homeowner so they don’t have to mow beneath the deck.
This is Eyler’s Valley Church, we gave the steeple a face lift. We removed the shingles and replaced with eco-friendly slate looking tiles. They have a 50 year warranty. Most of the cosmetic part of the wooden structure was taken off and replaced. The dentil mounding was saved as it was in great condition. We installed a new product that looks like the old dutchlap but comes with a 20 year warranty. The trim boards are made of that product as well. We then painted the whole steeple. While there we installed a new rope to the bell and replaced the fascia metal on the front of the church. Everyone can drive by and take a look. Also the church would like anyone interested to come visit during one of their services.
There were five windows in this barn all in very bad shape. Some were missing more than half the panes. KLS built entirely new frames from scratch to replace the old windows. We were able to find old sashes the correct size to match this barn. The sashes had any broken glass replaced and then glazed and painted. We installed the sashes in the frames and installed as a unit. The windows were fastened from the inside so there was no holes to the outside for weather to get in. KLS painted and caulked the windows and made aluminum drip caps so water doesn’t run behind the new windows.
KLS removed the old deck along with the bushes. Then built a new deck slightly smaller than the original. Customer didn’t need as much space as before.
This is a garage that at first we just framed new garage door openings into. The homeowner then finished putting the wooden Dutch lap siding on the front. Later they decided to have us come back and install new vinyl siding over the entire structure. Yes that is spray foam insulation that the homeowner had done to the roof and gable ends. He then used batt insulation to finish the garage. He plans to use it as a work shop and one side for his wife's car.
Here at the Rocky Ridge parade waiting for it to start.
Ready for the parade to start in Thurmont.
The top picture is the before. We removed all wood and MDF board and replaced with plastic. Painted to match the window color. Not a big change but a lot cleaner lines and now they match the house windows.
Come see us Thursday evening at the Thurmont parade. We will be throwing candy as usual.
KLS added the roof over the deck. Homeowner loves to be outdoors so we built the roof so she could enjoy the outdoors if it's sunny or if it's raining. We hung a blind she wanted to block the sun in the evening. The roof had to be built to a certain size to keep the proper setbacks from the property line. It was a tight fit.
This is the finished product from an earlier post. KLS stained this deck that we resurfaced earlier this year.
This is the before and after photos of a job we finished. We furred out the walls, insulated between the studs, wrapped the house with Tyvek and then installed the vinyl siding. We added the porch and stone veneers. New windows and doors were installed as well.
KLS resurfaced this deck. In the future we will stain the deck.
This is a few pictures of the Regional carpentry contest at the Frederick County Career and Technology Center. I was chair for the contest. I've been able to do this for many years when they host the event. I donate my time to help the students. This in turn helps me and other contractors to be able to hire skilled workers. I've hired three students from the program over the years.
KLS rebuilt the end of a wagon shed for the owner. A new rafter and beam were fitted and installed. Once the structure was sound we covered it with saw mill boards.
This a living room we remodeled. We removed the plaster and lathe, insulated and drywalled. We then painted the room to the color the homeowner wanted. Custom trim was made by KLS employees to match the rest of the existing house.
Backyard transformation. All done by hand since there was no access to get equipment in.
Gave a cleaner look to these garage doors. There was a lot of caulk built up around the doors that looked terrible, so we got rid of that and made room to wrap aluminum over a 2x4 to give a crisp clean look.
Ready for the Rocky Ridge parade. Dad, Mom my sister, Austin my employee and his girlfriend ready to go.

This is a 12' x 12' deck we added to an existing set of stairs of the back of the house. KLS uses composite rail cap on treated decks so you don't get the splinters or twisting of normal treated lumber. If you would like to have a deck built give us a call.
This was a basement area that the homeowner wanted a sewing room in. So we built a nice 12 x 20 room with hallway by the steps and large closet. She required lots of shelving and light. It's a little hard to tell but it is extremely bright in the room. There is 8- 2 x 2 foot fluorescent lights in the room. KLS can change your basement into a great living area or work area to your specifications.
This is a 12 x 16 shed we built. We had to build a retaining wall so there would be enough level area to put the shed.
