Daffodils are blooming and it is finally sunny! Make a note to add some bulbs to your garden next fall. Place them behind perennials that will hide their leaves after they are done blooming. A bonus is that deer don’t like daffodils.

When you are done with your winter pots, it is a good time
to bring your tools in to sharpen them for next year. Which tools? I would
suggest each of you own a pruner, shears and lopper. Ace Hardware at Miracle
Mile will sharpen tools for $4.50 each. Trimming and deadheading next spring
will be much easier on your hands, back, and shoulders.

This is a good week to bring inside all your liquid chemicals so they don’t freeze in your garage over the winter. Roundup, Liquid Fence, fungicides, insecticides and liquid fertilizers all loose their effectiveness when frozen. Remember to use Liquid Fence now and a few times this winter to keep those deer away!

It looks like we'll will have a fall warm up this weekend so a nice chance to finish up that garden clean up. Always cut back any tuberous perennials such a Iris, Peony, and Daylilly to avoid moisture following the stem down to cause rotting. Also clean up any Hosta to rid of slug eggs that could hatch next spring. Other perennials and grasses can be left for winter interest or cut back...your choice.
