Leaves piling up on the lawn? Before you reach for the rake and the bags, try the mower. π
A thin layer of dry leaves is free food for your grass. Run the mower over them and they shred into small flakes that settle down between the blades, break down over the winter and feed the soil. Come spring, there's nothing left but a healthier lawn.
The catch is timing. Leaves that sit for weeks get wet, mat down and smother the grass underneath, and that's how you end up with bare, moldy patches in March. Mow them every week or so while they're still dry, and if they're too deep for the mower, it's time for a real cleanup.
