Some big power NHRA stuff here for . For those who don’t know, we manufacture nearly every part in this billet CrossTieXLP 10 Plus assembly in-house. This includes the billet gears, billet case, rotating girdle, billet yoke, pinion lock nut system, and a reinforced pocket bearing. This allows us to adjust to the needs of the customer by making custom gear ratios in a reasonable time frame if not available through the standard gear manufactures.

What determines gear strength? Discussion to expand.

This graph plots the pinion input torque ratings, based on sizing data from Gleason / AGMA / ISO.

Red: 10” bevel gear, no hypoid offset (Transaxle)

Orange: 10-1/2” 1-1/2” hypoid offset

Black: Industry standard 9.4” (Ford 10”) 2.25” hypoid offset

Blue: 10.6” Dev. (TW10+) 2.25” hypoid offset.

Please note that the 9.4” (Ford 10”) 5.43 ratio to have the same torque capacity as a 4.10 ratio in the same sizing, would need to be increased to over a 12” set. See last image.

And the good news continues!

We just put eyes on Pat Gaily’s TW 10 Plus 4.12 ratio gear set back from his recent second place finish at the California 300.
We honestly can not tell the the difference pre to post race inspection. With approximately 500 miles of testing and racing, nearly all shot peen impressions are still visible with no post marking pattern shift that would show gear tooth deformation and wear. If you have been following our progress you know what a journey it’s been.

We are pleased to announce we are ready to start fulfilling backorders and taking new custom ratio orders on Monday October 23, 2023.

Tubeworks 4.12 10+ Update.

Second day of testing with Pat Gailey Saturday September 9th. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Focus: To determine if there is a speed and or efficiency loss in our TW10+ gear in comparison to a standard 10” gear with same final drive ratios, same TW CrossTie X case, same oil, same day test.

Results: 30 degrees lower average, 17 degrees lower peak operating temps at same air temperature, no loss of speed.
How is the possible?
Our theory is this: Because our tooth length is 50% longer, we actually have 3 teeth in contact vs. 2 which results in lower pressure per sq inch with same input torque, with the same initial rolling resistance on both 3rds.

Let us know what you think?

Tubeworks 10+ Gear update:

Great News. We just put eyes on our new Tubeworks 10+ Gear Set (4.12 ratio) back after Pat Gailey’s first Barstow test session. Approximately 120 miles were logged on the racecourse at 100mph + with our highest qualifying ratio underdrive. This ratio was used to produce the maximum amount of torque load on the pinion input. For testing purposes our gear was shot peen finished and received partial REM polish to show micro dimples. This type of finish was used to evaluate tooth wear characteristics and to see if there was any unpredicted point loading in our tooth form design.
As you can see, nearly 100% of the peening is still visible, which is only a few 1/10000 of an inch deep. I’m just going to say we are very pleased with these results and will be moving forward with further testing on the same gear. Stay tuned.

Tubeworks 10+ billet gear update:

Today we evaluated Tad Dowker’s Reverse rotation 5.43 powered by a 454 LSX, driving on the coast side. There are approximately 4 hours of hard racing/ testing on this unit. It is crack free, shows no post pattern shift, all tool paths still visible on both sides of the ring gear. There is .003”-.005” wear on the (driven) coast side of the pinion, no detectable wear on drive side. All very positive. We are sending this back with no replacement parts needed to keep going!

(2) 4.12:1 ratio 10.6” Currently being installed in Dougans RDE big block Trophy truck. Very soon to start testing.

I would like to add to the conversation what comes with this to help accelerate the testing time line. We understand the costs and efforts that go into a professional Trophy Truck program. We will include all post testing parts and service to make this successful. When all parties are confident to move to racing phase of testing we will provide you a 2nd unit of you ratio choice, custom ratios are not a problem, along with parts and service covered for a year.

All Season. One Gear.
Last year our friends at Bumblebee Racing finished 6th in the Radial Outlaws Points standing for 2022 using our Tubeworks Crosstie X.
This year they are starting the season with the same gear. Any thoughts?

Coming soon! Tubeworks 10+ Reinforced Racing Gears. For the 2% who need more than the standard 10” platform!

•Material core strength / impact toughness of 40%+ over 9310. *Validated through a 3rd party testing lab.

•Wear resistance of an OEM gear set.

•10.6” Pitch diameter development for ring and pinion.

•A reinforced (WEBBED) pinion tooth design that almost eliminates pinion tooth flex / fatigue failure.

•5 Axis machined geometry that can NOT be processed on traditional Gleason type equipment.

•100% Made in the USA with domestic premium billet material.

•Improved drive & coast side pressure angles.

•Improved gear contact ratio: substantially larger & longer tooth structure.

•Reduced spiral angle for lower pinion axial loads.

•Full radius gear roots form with no undercutting.

•A replaceable nose bearing stem.

•100% drop in fitment into the Tubeworks Billet CrossTie X thirdmember case.

•Complete digital control of shape, position, and length of contact pattern.

•Potential for improved efficiency due to “digitally perfect” gear faces and lower surface sliding loads.

•Yoke is 1/2”+ closer to transmission due to increased radius of ring gear than traditional 10” (9.4” diameter) gear set.

•Will be available in Ratios: 3.66:1, 3.75:1, 3.85:1, 4.12:1, 4.30:1, 4.43:1, 4.57:1, 4.71:1, 4.86:1, and (9.75” 5.43:1 Reverse Rotation shown)

Come take a look at the 1st articles at our booth #3844 @ PRI next week.

*Short run product availability through Q1&Q2 of 2023 for NHRA 4000HP+ and other professional racing development teams.

Help!
We need access to a Gleason!

We can provide the fully machined raw billets, and want to partner with a semi-local company to make this development happen in a timely manner. 100% Drop in application of new gear geometries for the current 10” High pinion and low pinion platform. Designed around 10.5” ring development, pinion is sized to match. Improved drive / coast pressure angles for bidirectional extreme loads. Proprietary Material surpasses 9310 toughness and wear resistance. Looking for short runs 50+ lots. 10” HP 5.43 comparison shown, same tooth counts.

To prep or not to prep? That is the question?

Does your program look through the fill hole and say it looks great? There’s so much more that needs to be addressed if you want to be a top contender.

Today’s highly competitive vehicles and drivers push parts to the limit. We have advanced the 10” platform to handle thousands of horsepower. High performing programs know attention is required to be reliable. Here are few of the items we find during our standard race prep services. Yes we actually take apart some of the bearings to inspect surface wear.

Please feel free to comment or ask questions. There are many things here that we would like to discuss, that you may not notice.

And we finished! What an incredible and challenging week with some great friends. On Day 1: We were 2nd TT (due to a penalty 🤷‍♂️)
Day 2: random oil line failure, field repair)
Day 3: accident on course, T-boned a stopped race truck in the course/ corner. Everyone was ok.
Day 4: solid run.
Day 5: trans fail 20 miles from the finish, then got her going with only 3rd gear to the END!
