Today was surreal.

I started a 6 week minimum project today on the most impressive property I’ve ever worked for. Carter’s Grove in Williamsburg VA is a 300 year old Colonial mansion that is now personally owned. Yes, a single family lives here. The current owner bought this property from the County and revamped everything to historic standards and then added features like a gun range, boat house, swimming pool, and 60,000+ sq/ft garage/woodshop/horse stable. My 9-5 company previously had spent 3 consecutive years here just doing finish work during the renovation. We are now back to put a fresh coat of finish on all the exterior trim and I’ve never been so excited to be on a ladder.

The sheer size of this place is mind bending and I honestly never imagined I would be doing this kind of work on something so beautiful. Incredibly humbled and thankful for the happenings and opportunities that got me here. I can’t wait to share more pictures ☺️

This red door is going to get a shiny new refresh of the same red. But first, prep!

The last guy who refinished this library, used a shellac with wax in it and then put on a latex top coat…. What this means is a sticky finish when it should be a silky smooth matte. Luckily just a light sanding, the correct shellac, and a new top coat did the job.
