Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fiber that has been used to increase the durability and fire resistance of building materials over the years. Exposure to asbestos can lead to complicated medical issues such as mesothelioma and lung cancer. There are no “safe” exposure levels for asbestos. Homeowners can be exposed to asbestos by disturbing the asbestos containing materials within their home during renovation or maintenance activities. This album includes photos of known or suspect asbestos containing materials we have encountered. Also included are photos of some buildings we have completed inspections on.

All heating oil tanks have a lifespan and will eventually leak. Leaking tanks can impact your drinking water well, basement / crawlspace or nearby surface water features. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) currently has a fund to assist homeowners in dealing with these leaking heating oil tanks. We work with the homeowners and the VDEQ to make this process as simple and efficient as possible. From testing the tanks to see if they have leaked, to closing them in place or removing them, we can do it all. We can also assist you in removing old above ground storage tanks (ASTs) from your basement or property. This album includes photos of some of the work that we have done.

State proposes to increase homeowners' costs to clean leaking heating oil tanks

Potential changes are looming for the Virginia Underground Petroleum Storage Tank Fund. The fund was created to help home owners deal with leaking Underground Storage Tanks (USTs). Currently home owners are charged a $500 deductible and the fund covers the remainder of the VDEQ required cleanup work, up to $1,000,000.00. The governor is reportedly considering raising the deductible for home owners to $2,500.00 and also transferring money out of the fund into the state’s general fund. These are some big changes. As we learn more we will share the information with you. If you have any questions regarding these changes or your UST please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you are a homeowner with a leaking heating-oil tank in your yard, Virginia requires you to clean up the mess.
