This is a well-crafted PR statement. What it is not is an explanation.
And here is what nobody is talking about.
If this movement was driven by environmental conditions, by what highly expansive Texas clay soils do every single summer when they reach their driest and smallest state, then identifying that cause was the most important first step. Not just for the homeowner. For Lennar too. Because understanding the cause changes everything about what the right solution actually is.
Instead the plan is underpinning. The most expensive path. And possibly not the only thing that was needed.
Underpinning is a static solution applied to a dynamic environment. Anchoring select points of a floating slab while the soil around it continues to move does not resolve the problem. It relocates it. If the environmental cause is never identified and corrected, the movement will find somewhere new to go. Future warranty claims become more likely, not less.
Addressing the environmental causation first could have saved the homeowner from this situation and saved Lennar from far more costly claims down the road.
