This is pretty cool. Second place for third year in a row. Of course, there were 2 or 3 other boards there with red ribbons also which I thought was odd. Those pieces didn't have the quality craftsmanship or difficulty I felt mine had.

The first place piece was amazing. Maple and bloodwood chess board with thin wenge strips between the squares. Plus, the board was built as a lid to a box that stores the chess pieces.

One of the most frequent comments we get on our boards is that "they're too pretty to use."

We tell people you can use one side, and keep the other to display.

We also tell them how easy it is to refresh them after they've been used a while.

I got in a mood tonight and decided to refresh a couple of our own boards. See below for the before and after in each.

We recently completed our NC State Fair competition board, which will get dropped off there in a couple weeks to hang out during the fair.
