There used to be a hallway here. You’d never know it 👀 ....To give our clients the primary suite they deserved, we took a tiny half bathroom and a tiny hallway and turned them into closet space. Then we moved the bedroom door. The result: double the closet and double the bedroom, with a much better flow ✨

And the bathroom? The previous owners had already remodeled it, so instead of gutting it, we kept the tile and fixtures, painted the cabinets, and added new hardware, mirrors and lighting. Small changes, big impact, and real savings for our clients.

They called us BEFORE they made an offer 🏠 A young couple found a home they loved in an older Durham neighborhood, but it needed a complete reimagining. Before they bought it, they brought us in. We walked the house, showed them what it could become, and then they made the offer to what would be their dream home ❤️....Three months later: every room redesigned (except the front door, which had not arrived on time....don't think I would have missed that! 😂). The Roman columns came out, the space opened up, and the light finally comes through.

The House They Almost Left

This Raleigh, NC home had what the homeowners loved most: a great location. But the interior felt dated, and they couldn’t see how the existing house could become the home they wanted.

So they started looking at new construction. The husband was concerned about taking on a new home, while also wanting to make sure his wife could finally love where they lived.

Then a friend referred them to Hykal Homes, because we are a design-build firm specializing in residential renovations and custom home design, we are able to see what other cant.

They called us “just in case.” We showed up with ideas. Instead of asking, “Should you move?” we asked:

“What if we transformed the home you already love?”
The first project: the bathroom renovation.
But there was a catch...The shower had to stay. So we designed around it. We developed the bathroom design, created 3D proposal renderings, selected the materials and finishes, and showed the homeowners exactly what their bathroom remodel could look like before construction began.
Then we built it. And the result?
The proposal became reality.
This is what we love about design-build: solving the existing home’s challenges instead of assuming everything needs to be torn out and started over.

A dated bathroom can become a beautiful, functional space. A challenging layout can become an intentional one. And sometimes, the house you thought you needed to leave just needs a new vision.
They didn’t need a new house.
They needed a new vision for the one they already loved.
