IQRG Condensation Control Solutions for Heated Buildings in Moderately Cold and Mixed Climates.
Applicable to skylights, windows, facades, indoor swimming pools, restaurants and any other glazing application where glass condensation is problematic.
Excessive indoor humidity is a well-known risk factor for buildings in cold and mixed climates. It is bad for health and bad for business. Museums, Art Galleries, Schools, Healthcare and Libraries in particular are at risk.
Maintaining an indoor climate of the air continuously humidified at 40 to 50% RH at 70°F (21°C) may seem reasonable, but that does not take into affect condensation over many weeks in cold climates. This is caused by the high DPT versus the low R-value of the glazing and in some cases, an even lower R-value of the window frames.
Dew point temperature (DPT) is the temperature at which a moist air sample at the same pressure would reach water v***r "saturation."

HVAC heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems in tall office buildings typically account for 33% or more of overall building energy consumption. Of that, more than half of the HVAC energy is due to overcoming the heat gains due to occupants, lighting and miscellaneous computers and electrical power usage. Increased energy efficiency is the path to sustainability. Hybrid HVAC systems should include natural ventilation to reduce the energy burdens of the building systems. In cold climate environments, natural ventilation could be problematic in specific areas. IQ Radiant Glass can help.

Smart buildings and building automation are key components for achieving greater energy efficiency . Specifically, the control and coordination of a building’s heating, ventilation (including natural ventilation), should be integral to the HVAC system, Thermal comfort and fresh air could compliment each other with the use of heating glass vents.

Our basic concept would energize the operable vents, however other fixed openings could also be glazed with heating glass. The reason is basic to human comfort, fresh air and the warmth of radiant heat.

Historically, heating and air-conditioning design philosophies have focused on obtaining a specific indoor temperature for a given design air temperature. If the design air temperature was achieved in a room, then the occupants were considered thermally comfortable. This approach does not differentiate convective energy from radiant energy exchange.

Therefore, the design air temperature may not accurately represent the occupant’s thermal comfort. One of the most common examples of the air temperature misrepresenting the occupant’s thermal comfort is standing out- side on a cool, calm day. With no radiant heat from the sun, the individual is chilled. All that changes with the sun shining.

Radiant heating glass provides long wave radiation that provide thermal comfort to the occupants in the room, at lower interior air temperatures.

The dimensions, scale and utility of structural glass are broad, practical and visually exciting. Properly designed glass floors and bridges are completely safe. Using IQRG, electric heated glass, the designer can provide visual and thermal comfort under all year weather conditions in all challenging climates.

IQRG heating glass, by its very nature, is structural glass. A recent project required a configuration of IG units with double laminated as well as a monolithic component for triple glazing and strength. The combination of the five layers of glass were 51 mm thick.

Using IQRG electric heated glass as a primary heat source in winter, assists in the goals to improve indoor air quality and reduce energy consumption, all while maximizing the thermal comfort for the occupants in the discreet space. (A primary attribute of IQRG is that it focuses on the occupants and surfaces in the individual zone range of the glass unit) Heating the air is unnecessary. A single room can have multiple heating zones based on the fenestration of the glass facade. The glass electric heated glass allows natural forces to drive air through a building: which lead, respectively, to two main natural ventilation strategies: cross ventilation and stack ventilation.

Under the guidance of Smart Building Machine Learning Systems, energy savings of over 50% are derived from the inherent efficiency of the electric heated glass, the energy savings in not moving air and the on-demand feature based on actual occupant usage.

IQ Radiant Glass Ultra High Performance Monumental Sized Pivot Doors on the Jansen Janisol Steel Platform using Electric Heated Glass outperform all expectations.
Large pivot doors in winter conditions present challenges in that they underperform traditional swing doors in air infiltration. They also create a large area of air exchange when opened in winter months, much to the discomfort of the occupants. The large glass surface offers opportunities for condensation and to compensate for the reduced thermal comfort, heating floor grates or hot air washings is. required.
IQRG Steel Pivot Doors differ in that they provide velvety smooth radiant heat from the interior surface of the glass for the thermal comfort of the occupants and interior surfaces. The pivot door is its own heating zone and projects well into the room. This allows for lower ambient interior temperatures and the health benefits of natural ventilation when the door is opened.
These custom doors can be stand alone elements or coordinated with other fixed and operable openings in the building.
