Silver Bay is an outdoor adventurer’s dream. Beaches to visit, waterfalls to chase, and rocks to find – plus fishing charters and an adventure park. There are many accommodation options, including camping in the warmer months. Since Silver Bay is part of Minnesota famed North Shore there are so many things to do nearby as well.

Gooseberry Falls is located in Lake County, MN. You’ll find three trails while you’re there. If you’re able, do all 3 but if time is of the essence, we suggest the middle falls trail.

Man oh man, do we know now why Lou’s Fish House is world-famous. The entire place was neat, clean, well-stocked and you could definitely tell they have made the commitment to do a few things and do them well.

The variety of smoked fish was wide. Our personal favorites were the sugar maple smoked trout and the pepper smoked steelhead. While we were there, and indecisive, there were many customers that came and went quickly – knowing exactly what they were there for. They were now obviously part of their fan base, that we now completely understand.

They have a couple of outdoor tables for you to have a quick meal of fish and cheese.

So yes, we do recommend pulling off to have a bite!

PS – they do also sell sleeves of crackers!

is a fun, historic location to enjoy Lake Superior’s shoreline. We watched the raising of the bridge while enjoying ice cream, shopped, and enjoyed a late lunch at their Brew House.

Captain Joe Baker, with Legacy Angling, took us out over 6 miles on Lake Superior for a half-day fishing excursion. We met up with Joe before dawn at the Harbor in Duluth.

Captain Joe and his crew provide fishing charters that include all fishing equipment, bait, and cleaning services after the haul. Joe, the youngest fishing captain in Duluth, knew exactly what he was doing. With good ole 90’s country playing in the background as fish hit our lines, we met our fishing limit in no time. Like the name of Joe’s boat, we were definitely “Just Chilling.”

That’s how you know you’re in the right place.

We kept hearing the same thing - locals, reviews, everyone pointing us to OMC Smokehouse. And they were right!

From the first bite (technically the complimentary pork rinds + house-made sauces), we were all in.

At our table: ribs, a brisket sandwich, and a veggie sloppy joe - all equally worth ordering again.

And while we don’t always talk atmosphere, this one stood out. Thoughtful, welcoming, and detailed in a way that tells you the food’s going to deliver - and it absolutely did.

We’ll be back anytime we’re near Duluth. No question.
