Today, I got to work on the first house my dad built 35 plus years ago. This house as such a back story to it. I started working full time for my father in 1998, and during that year Hwy 84 came through Prentiss. Because of this most of the homes on the right away had to be torn down. Luckily, this house was on a raised foundation, so someone bought it and had it moved less than a mile away. In order for it to be moved, we had to cut 6 feet off the roof for to fit under the power lines, and then put it all back together again.
Today, I repaired the bathroom floor from a plumbing leak that was in the shower wall due to it being pvc piping, which is obsolete these days. While looking at the house, knowing my dad had likely touched every board in this house, it became a sentimental moment.
The original owners of this house were Scottie and Demarla Brinson. When the highway came through they had my dad build them another home in Hattiesburg.
To make it a full circle, in the next few weeks I will begin building a home for their son Court.
