Shelby of VINEY GROVE GOATS posted on their stories one day that she hoped they could build a barn for the goats someday.

So naturally, I slid into her DMs with, “Hey, I know a guy…”

And well… now she has a barn.

This build will always be a special one for us. Shelby is a friend, and getting to take the vision she and her husband had, turn their drawing into a 3D rendering, and then watch our crew bring it to life was pretty dang cool.

Her husband finished the inside in cedar, and I don’t think I’m being dramatic when I say it may be the prettiest goat barn I’ve ever seen.

Classic red. Dutch doors. Side sheds. Milking room. Amish built. And now full of some very spoiled goats living their best lives. Plus a big ole farm dog. Head to her page to see how those goats are living!

Sometimes a build starts with architectural plans.

Apparently sometimes it starts with an Instagram post and “Hey, I know a guy.”

And those might be my favorite kind.

We’re a family business, and you’re going to see that reflected in just about every part of how we operate.

Sometimes that looks like kids tagging along while we walk your property. Sometimes it’s talking through house plans with a baby on my hip. And sometimes I’m answering a client message in the middle of a math lesson.

It may look a little messy from the outside, but we don’t see family and business as two things that always have to be kept separate.

We want you AND your kids to feel at home with us. Bring them to the property walk. Let them listen while we talk plans. Let them be excited about their new rooms.

Because families are a big part of why we build in the first place.

Life doesn’t stop while you build a home. And we don’t think it has to.

Around here, family, life and building a home are allowed to be intertwined. Even in the middle of a snack break.

But first…let me find my phone.

The cheapest builder can become the most expensive builder you ever hire.

And the highest price doesn’t automatically mean the best builder either.

That’s why I don’t love comparing custom home builders by cost per square foot.

You aren’t buying the same product off a shelf.

You’re trusting someone to manage hundreds of decisions, thousands of details, your money, your property, and a pretty significant season of your life.

So yes, compare the numbers.

But look at these seven things too.

Because you aren’t just looking for someone who can build a house.

You’re looking for someone you trust to build YOUR house.

I put together the actual questions I’d ask a builder before signing a contract.

Comment “BUILDER” and I’ll send you the free one-page Builder Interview Guide.

Save this one. You’ll want it when you start interviewing builders

Turns out running a construction company doesn’t always happen from an office.

Sometimes it looks like house plans pulled up in the front seat, two sleeping babies in the back, Ford Connect keeping me online, white noise going, and my Owala filled with electrolytes because HydroMom is apparently part of the job description now.

One of the biggest things I’m learning in this season is to give myself a little grace while we figure out how to juggle it all.

It’s not always going to look organized. It’s definitely not always going to look like the plan.

Sometimes the babies fall asleep and the front seat becomes the office.

And honestly? We’re still getting it done.

Choosing a builder is about a lot more than liking the homes they build.

You’re trusting someone with your budget, your timeline, your plans and a pretty big piece of your life for the next several months.

Know who you’re building with. Ask the hard questions. Understand their process. Talk to past clients.

A beautiful house matters. The experience getting there does too.

And if you’re wondering what questions you should actually be asking a builder… I’ve got something coming for you Friday.

We’re also kicking off a new Flyaway mini series soon, breaking down the things we think every homeowner should know before, during and after building. No gatekeeping. Just real builder knowledge to help you build smarter.

The research speaks for itself.
Build her the kitchen.

Results may vary. Study absolutely made up.

Ladies, send this to whoever needs to see it.

What’s one thing you’d want in a dream kitchen?

Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes with our team?

When our partner and main crew aren’t building alongside us at Flyaway Construction, they’re serving their community in another way through the local farm stand they’re a part of. Along with other Amish communities, they help bring in fresh produce, incredible homemade baked goods (THE COFFEE CAKE IS AMAZING), handcrafted products, dairy, and so much more.

We love these families like our own and are so thankful God brought them into our lives. It’s a blessing to not only build homes together, but to walk through life together.

If you’re in the Gentry area and looking for outstanding local goods, go check them out this weekend. You’ll be supporting some truly incredible families, and we know you’ll love what you find.

Good Thursday afternoon from Eagle Corner!

This is a recycled picture from last week, just used to remind you of what’s to come. We will have tons of tomatoes, lots of seedless watermelon, crops of cucumbers, and bunches of blueberries!

In addition, we will have our lineup of Amish baked goods to include bread, cookies, pies, cinnamon rolls, cinnamon twists, cobblers and more!

I sustained a traumatic eye injury Sunday and will be slow at posting - please no sympathy for me - it was my own fault - BUT I am going to do my best to help keep you informed of what’s to come this weekend at Eagle Corner Market!

Stay tuned for updates, or come and see the fine folks at Eagle Corner Amish Market on Friday from 9am-6pm and Saturday from 8am-4pm.

(And remember, when w**d eating, ALWAYS wear eye protection. You’ll thank yourself later.)
