A closer look at the tool doing the work! This auger bit is being used to bore the mortises in the back of the hemlock shelves. Those holes will receive the steel dowel brackets that support the floating shelf while keeping all the hardware hidden from view.

Making the full-depth cut through the miter while scoring the adjoining countertop below. This method creates a custom seam angle that matches the actual wall conditions. Since walls are rarely a perfect 45°, cutting both pieces together helps ensure a tighter fit and a cleaner joint when the countertops are assembled!

A satisfying part of the install! Tapping this floating shelf onto the steel dowel brackets for a tight, secure fit. The shelf is made from rough-sawn, locally sourced hemlock and was drilled to match the concealed mounting hardware before installation.

ASMR of satisfying drilling while boring holes for 2” thick rough sawn, locally sourced hemlock for floating shelves. These bores will receive the steel dowel brackets lagged to the framing, which will hold the shelf solidly in place.

Straight, clean cuts on the acacia butcher block countertop before install. Blue painter’s tape and scoring the cut line first helped reduce tear out and keep the edges sharp and clean for the square ends.
