Wildfire season is changing in Oregon, and preparedness isn't just for homes in the forest.

If the fires in Spokane and Los Angeles taught us anything, it's that many homes are lost because of wind-blown embers, not direct flames. Simple maintenance like cleaning gutters, clearing the first five feet around your home, and choosing fire-resistant materials during renovations can make a real difference. Oregon experts emphasize "home hardening" as one of the most effective ways to reduce wildfire risk.

Some homes hold more than memories, they hold generations of family history.

This farmhouse has been in the same family since it was built in the 1960s. When the owners' daughter and her husband decided to move back from Seattle to help care for her aging parents, they knew the home needed to evolve while still feeling like the place everyone had always loved.

Originally, the plan was to build a separate ADU, but permitting restrictions meant they needed a different solution. Through thoughtful planning and a lot of collaboration, we transformed the existing home to create a private living space for the parents today that can easily become the daughter's primary suite in the future. The result is a home that adapts as the family's needs change without sacrificing its character or the memories tied to it.

From preserving the original tongue-and-groove ceilings to creating a more functional kitchen for the large family gatherings that have always been part of this home, every decision was made with both the present and the future in mind.

Projects like this remind us that great design isn't always about making a home bigger. It's about making it work better for the people who live there.

A little progress update from one of our whole-home remodels in Eugene!

This is one of our favorite phases of a project. The big structural work is behind us, and now the details that really bring the design to life are starting to come together. From cabinetry to lighting and all the work happening behind the walls, it's exciting to see the vision become reality.

We're looking forward to sharing more as this home continues to take shape!

From a narrow galley kitchen to an open, inviting space designed for gathering. ✨

Designed by Holly Burtchael (DA), this renovation transformed the heart of the home with new cabinetry, updated finishes, modern appliances, and a layout that finally matched our clients' vision.

Once demolition began, we uncovered an unexpected challenge. The walls we planned to remove were load-bearing, and the ceiling joists changed direction. Rather than compromising the design, our team worked with engineers to reframe the ceiling with recessed beams and posts, making it possible to achieve the open-concept kitchen our clients had envisioned from the start.

Projects like these are a great reminder that the best renovations aren't just about beautiful finishes. They're about the people behind them. A huge shoutout to the incredible team that made this transformation possible:
