This kitchen remodel proves you do not always need more square footage to create a dramatic transformation.

The homeowners wanted a kitchen that felt brighter, more functional, and better suited for gathering with family and friends. Their wishlist included improved storage, more lighting and outlets, a more comfortable dining nook, and bold green cabinetry that brought personality into the space.

Working within a tight galley layout with three doorways meant every inch had to work hard. Through thoughtful planning and strategic layout updates, we were able to improve flow, maximize storage, and make the kitchen feel noticeably larger without significantly changing the footprint.

A few favorite details:
• Custom green cabinetry
• Rebuilt curved shelving inspired by the original cabinet
• Accessible storage solutions for aging in place
• Diagonal flooring installation to visually widen the room
• Upholstered booth seating for a cozy dining nook

One of the most rewarding comments we hear is, "How did you make it feel so much bigger?”

What was Neil Kelly like in the 90s? Think power ties, grainy office footage, decorative tile countertops, and remodeling before Pinterest existed 😅
Honestly… kind of iconic.

Built in 1906 and passed down throughout generations, this home carries more than history. It carries a family legacy. The grandparents of our client built this house, and every original photo, contract, and specifications tells part of that story.

Our Handyman team was honored to help preserve and protect this special home through repairs and interior painting that respected the home’s original character.

At Neil Kelly, we believe in generations of craft and care. Honoring the homes and the families who trust us with their stories. Projects like this remind us that our work is about more than repairs, it’s about preserving the places and memories that connect generations. ✨

How long does a remodel actually take? Here's the honest answer.

On average, a Neil Kelly remodel moves through three phases: design (12–16 weeks), permitting (6–8 weeks), and construction (12–20 weeks). You'll notice design can take just as long as construction, and that's intentional. The more thoroughly we plan, the shorter and smoother the construction phase becomes, which is the part that most disrupts daily life. The result: projects that finish on schedule, on budget, and exactly as imagined.

Mom doesn’t want another apron… she wants an apron-front sink. 😌

And honestly? Maybe new cabinets, warmer lighting, and a kitchen that makes hosting look effortless too.

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating every kind of mom and all the people who make a house feel like home. ✨

This 20yr old Neil Kelly kitchen is still looking as beautiful as ever! Join us as we revisit a home we remodeled in the ‘00s. The finishes are still timeless and the high-quality materials we installed back then are holding up great. We like to think Nancy Meyers would be proud 😊.

Laurie Kelley (no relation) tells the story of how her family decided to remodel, her experience with Neil Kelly, how much she still loves the outcome, and her tips for homeowners taking on a new project.

It's Friday!

When the owners of this Cedar Hills home in SW Portland reached out to us in October 2025, they had one goal: transform their dated guest bathroom into something special before their newly engaged daughter came home for Christmas. That's a two-month window for a full bathroom remodel, and we were in.

NK Portland Design Consultant Katie Weber and her team removed the soffit that had made the shower feel dark and cave-like, recessed the medicine cabinet for a cleaner look, and replaced a broken pocket door that had been a nuisance for years.

To meet the Christmas deadline, tile was off the table. So, Katie leaned into solid surface materials and Marmoleum sheeting instead. The result is a grout-free, low-maintenance bathroom that looks like it took much longer to remodel than it did—all for less than $100k.
