**Hurricane Ian debris removal update and reminders**

We currently have 11 debris removal trucks operating in Zones 2, 3, 5, 6 & 8 throughout the city. In total, our contractor has picked up 66,000 cubic yards of debris to date, focusing heavily on C&D (construction & demolition).

Please be sure to separate all C&D debris from yard waste and DO NOT mix any electronics, household wastes (cleaners, bug sprays, etc.), paint, human waste products (biowaste), or household garbage with the C&D. Construction & Debris (C&D) includes furniture, drywall, and other construction debris.

As a reminder, Waste Pro is NOT contracted to pick up storm debris. They are limited to picking up 3 bags or cans of yard waste per household. The bags or cans need to be separated from the storm debris pile as best as possible to make it easily identifiable that it is not part of the storm debris pile.

The debris haulers are working 7 days a week from 7 am – 7 pm.

You can access the debris removal map by visiting the city's website at www.port-orange.org and clicking on the Storm Debris Removal Map.

Storm debris collection in unincorporated Volusia County begins Wednesday, Oct. 5

Volusia County will begin storm debris collection in unincorporated Volusia County, Wednesday, Oct. 5. Unincorporated areas are those areas outside city limits.
Residents should bring storm debris to the public right of way, the area that extends from the street to the sidewalk, ditch, utility pole or easement. Residents should not place debris in the road; this obstructs traffic, hinders cleanup and power restoration efforts, and makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to pass. If possible, keep debris away from drainage ditches, inlets, mailboxes and power lines. Do not cover storm drains and never block fire hydrants.

Residents must sort debris into separate piles for vegetative debris (leaves, branches and cut trees), construction and demolition debris (building materials, carpet, furniture, fences, drywall) and appliances and white goods (refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, stoves). Do not place vegetative debris in plastic yard waste bags. The storm debris removal contractor will leave bagged debris for weekly residential yard waste collection since plastic bags cannot be disposed of by the storm debris contractor. If you have a small amount of yard debris, normal collection rules will apply. Debris piles that are mixed will not be collected.

Individuals who hire a contractor to handle large tree debris or household damage must make sure the contractor is licensed and insured and knows he or she is required to take all debris to the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange at 1990 Tomoka Farms Road or the West Volusia Transfer Station in DeLand at 3151 E. New York Ave. Contractors are required by law to dispose of debris properly; they cannot place it in the right of way.

Electronics and household hazardous waste will not be collected by the storm debris contractor. County residents can dispose of electronics and household hazardous waste at the Tomoka Landfill or West Volusia Transfer Station free of charge.
A toll-free hotline number has been set up for unincorporated residents to call with storm debris questions. The number is 800-291-1205 and can be called 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
