🫣 WORST BOX ELDER INFESTATION IN 100 YEARS?🫣
If you live in the Pocatello, Inkom, McCammon, or surrounding areas, you’ve probably noticed something that is hard to miss… The Box Elders are absolutely everywhere.
With having the warmest winter in Idahos recorded history comes with seeing Box Elder populations unlike anything we have experienced in our years in the pest control industry.
In some areas, the sheer number of insects emerging from surrounding trees, mountains, greenbelts, and natural areas is overwhelming.
And there is something extremely important we want homeowners to understand:
🏠 THE BIGGEST GOAL IS KEEPING THEM OUT OF YOUR HOME.
When Box Elder pressure is this extreme, we cannot realistically promise that every single bug will be stopped before reaching your homes exterior.
New insects are constantly emerging and moving toward homes.
That’s why our strategy is to create as much treated protection around the structure as possible.
As Box Elders crawl across treated surfaces, they can pick up the product on their bodies and be exposed to it. The goal is to kill them before they have an opportunity to make their way inside and if they do get inside they will die shortly after.
And this is important because once large numbers begin getting inside, you’re dealing with a much bigger nuisance.
•WHAT ABOUT THE ONES THAT DO GET INSIDE?
Even with a good exterior treatment, some Box Elders may still find a way through tiny cracks, gaps, vents, siding, windows, doors, or other openings.
But these insects will have already crossed treated areas on their way toward the structure and can subsequently die from that exposure.
prevention is still the key.
We don’t want to wait until your house is full of Box Elders before taking action.
We’re trying to intercept them before they get inside.
Think of it like a defensive perimeter:
Box Elders approach → contact treated areas → pick up product → become exposed → die → fewer make it inside.
• WHY ARE YOU STILL SEEING THEM?
This is probably the most common question we’re getting right now.
“I just had my house treated. Why am I still seeing Box Elders?”
Because we’re not dealing with one group of insects.
New Box Elders are constantly hatching and coming.
The products on the home kill hundreds or even thousands, only to have more arrive from surrounding areas the next day.
That doesn’t mean the treatment isn’t working.
It means the pest pressure is extremely high. THE HIGHEST IN 100 years.
Our job is to keep reducing that pressure and intercepting as many insects as possible before they get inside.
If you’re seeing what feels like an unprecedented Box Elder invasion, you’re not alone.
