Here's a quick update on my new pollinator garden I started from scratch this spring. Spoiler alert: it's a work in progress! 🫣

We didn't get around to covering the area with mulch after planting, so I left it with the paper plates around it until this weekend. The grass had gotten long enough that it was shading out the smaller seedlings, so I trimmed it up. Also picked up 2 bags of mulch that I used around each individual plant to help keep the grass from overpowering it so quickly. Pro tip - leave the plates under the mulch to further prevent grass growth.

Lost a couple seedlings, but the rest are doing great!

Great turn out at the litter clean up tonight! It was a little warm, but we got a lot of firework debris from America's 250th picked up around the Blue Star Memorial, so it was worth it! 🎇

This litter clean up helps us to meet our grant requirements to beautify the Memorial and help people understand why memorials like these can be so good for our community! There is going to be one more coming up in the next few weeks and we would love to have some more hands to help us do this important work, so be on the lookout!

Great turnout at the Dig & Dream tonight to make our Veteran's Memorial Garden at Garfield Park look all slicked up! It really is looking so full and lush - the bee balm was one of my favorites tonight. 🐝

Got everything done so quickly, we were able to enjoy a glass of lemonade 🍋 and chit chat for a few before heading home. It's always so good to see you all, amazing work ladies!

I haven't seen as much pollinator activity this year as I have in years past, but I'm hoping once the Pye W**d blooms, they will come visit! 🦋🐞🐝

Saw a little toadman when I was watering seedlings today and the bees and wasps have been following me around after I water, so I decided to make a and puddler with an unused planter jar, some rocks, sand and a Joe Pye W**d branch. Then topped it off with a baby marsh marigold for extra cover & shade. 😎

Hope they like it!
