We got a little snow in the mountains so we took a Sunday drive.

It was lovely being out in nature. Mugsie, Raven, and Bear got to play along a creek(they were smart enough NOT to go in it) and The Young Hull and I had a snowball fight but Mr. Hull didn't join in because he wore shorts 🤭

I hope this means we'll have a real good winter this year.

Well look at that, we might actually get snow before Halloween. That hasn't happened since I still went trick or treating. Good thing I'm planning to make The Young Hull's costume that can fit around warm clothes.

This is probably the last harvest of the season. We got a frost the last few mornings(I brought my little lemon trees in in time)

I never did get a zucchini or cucumber this year, which is very odd. There's still time for the carrots and beets to give it a go, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Got the grape juice sealed and labeled for the shelf.

We ended up with 12 ¼ pint jars and 6 ½ pint jars. I'm giving one of the ½ pints to the friend who let us pick her grapes and the rest will be saved for school lunches and for home.

Next year we'll make more and maybe on a few years we'll be able to add our own home grown grapes to it.

I did taste it and, as someone who doesn't like grape juice, it tasted pretty good. I added just ¼ cup of sugar to the whole thing but really it would have been fine without it, too.

10lbs of sliced mushrooms comes out to 6 quart jars of dehydrated mushroom slices. Could I use less jars by really packing them down in there? Yes. But then I would have small pieces. Which is fine, too.

These store fine in a pantry or dark, dry, cupboard. You can toss them into soups or steep them in water to rehydrate. I use the water for gravy or to make the mushroom chicken Gnocchi dish, which is a favorite in our house.

We were able to pick grapes fresh from a friend's place and after eating a few we had enough to still do a batch of juice.

I've never made juice before. In fact I've never made anything with grapes either. So this'll be a total firsts all around.

After staining the bits, the juice needs to set for 24-48 hours and then I'll add some sugar to sweeten it and can in it small jars for The Young Hull to take in school lunches.

A couple of rams decided to come check things out.

When my grandparents lived here they had the sheep come up on the porch.

Another soup!

This time it's beef barley with celery, mushrooms, pumpkin, carrots, onion, garlic, homemade paprika, and a beef bone. I checked it all in a crock pot(minus the barley and pumpkin) with water, a veggie bullion cube and a beef bullion cube and a bit of butter. The barley and pumpkin went in about 45 minutes before serving.

I got 2 packs of sliced beef bones on sale, froze them individually on a parchment lined baking sheet and now I can grab one or two as needed.

The poor little thing. I wonder what happened to it?

I was told that for deer, it's a nature takes it's course approach. Meaning that it'll either learn to live without the leg or it'll succumb, but there won't be human intervention.

I hope it survives.
