Rick, we take customer concerns seriously, but important context has been left out of this review. The individuals you requested were originally provided as general laborers to assist with moving furniture, and you were aware of that. You were also advised that missing baseboard sections needed to be replaced for the quarter-round installation to be completed properly, which you declined.

When concerns were raised, we offered to provide skilled tradesmen, but that option was declined in favor of hourly labor. Payment also remains outstanding for moving services performed on two separate occasions.

Despite the claims being made here, you have continued attempting to contact and hire the same workers you are criticizing. We dispute responsibility for the additional damages and costs being demanded from us and have documentation of the work, communications, and payment history.

We remain willing to address legitimate concerns professionally, but we will not accept responsibility for work we did not perform or conditions we did not create.

You guys know I don’t speak on anything unless it has to be addressed, so here it goes.

This individual is publicly criticizing my company while still actively contacting and trying to hire the same workers he’s complaining about. These workers were originally sent as laborers to move furniture—not skilled carpenters—and he was fully aware of that.

He was told that missing baseboards needed to be replaced for the quarter-round to be properly completed, and he declined. When concerns came up, I offered skilled workers, but he specifically wanted hourly labor because he wanted things done quickly.

Meanwhile, we still have not been paid for moving his furniture twice, yet money and free work are now being demanded from us for things we dispute causing or even performing.

I only know this individual because he originally represented himself as being involved in real estate. He later personally told me he was unemployed and wanted to start a construction company.

I don’t normally put business disputes online, but when you publicly attack my company’s reputation, I’m going to defend it with facts and documentation.

Please stop contacting and soliciting workers you met through my company while publicly claiming those same workers and my company are the problem.

People sometimes assume that if the owner or CEO of a construction company isn’t swinging a hammer every day, they “don’t do any work.” In reality, their work has just shifted from doing the jobs to running the company that makes the jobs possible.

A construction company owner is usually responsible for estimating and bidding jobs, finding customers, negotiating contracts, hiring and managing crews, scheduling subcontractors, ordering materials, handling change orders, dealing with inspectors and permits, managing payroll and insurance, collecting payments, solving problems, and making sure there’s enough work lined up for everyone.

Think of it this way: the workers build the project; the owner builds and manages the business.

Once a construction company grows, the owner actually shouldn’t be doing most of the physical labor. If the CEO spends eight hours installing roofing or pouring concrete, that’s eight hours they’re not finding the next project, checking profitability, coordinating crews, meeting customers, or making sure everyone gets paid.

That doesn’t mean an owner should be afraid to get their hands dirty. There are times when good owners jump in and help. But their primary responsibility becomes leadership, organization, sales, finances, quality control, and keeping the pipeline full.

A crew might finish a $20,000 project, but somebody had to find that $20,000 project, price it correctly, sell it, contract it, finance the materials, organize the labor, manage the risk, collect the money, and find the next one.

That’s why, as a construction company becomes successful, you often see the owner doing less physical construction and more management. The goal isn’t for the owner to have ten jobs; it’s to build a company capable of completing ten jobs without requiring the owner to personally work on every one.
