Pittsburgh's South Side - where you're close to the action, your neighbors and well .. everything else. 😆😂

Just wrapped up a project for a client who wanted to level up, literally. ☝️⤴️
With no room for a traditional staircase, a sleek spiral was the move. To keep everything cohesive, we fabricated custom treads to perfectly match the deck boards creating a seamless look from top to bottom.

The result? A custom deck spanned across the back of the house. It's a game changer that provides an outdoor escape with a direct path to the ground floor without having to navigate the whole house.

We love getting our hands on unique builds like this one. It just goes to show that even in the heart of the city, you don't need a massive yard to create a whole vibe.✨
You just need a team that knows how to make every single inch count.

The kids are running laps back and forth across the deck without a care in the world. Mom is sitting down for the first time all day. And nobody's running in and out of the house every five minutes‼️
That's it. That's the win. 😂

This project was about more than just square footage; it was about engineering a full-scale living suite that actually changes the way this home functions.

We designed this one to feel easy to live in. Under the shade of the new gable roof, you’ve got a full outdoor kitchen with a sink area because, in our book, convenience is luxury. We tied the entire structure into the landscape with stone pillars that run straight to grade, locking back into the retaining wall for a look that’s permanent, polished and feels like it was always supposed to be there.
From the integrated lighting to the electrical runs for the TV, every detail was handled with the level of precision this home deserves.
We built this space to handle everything from family holidays to chaotic playdates and the random Tuesdays that spontaneously turn into game night, without missing a beat. 📺🍺🍷

All we've got left is to throw down some grass seed.. and figure out who's in charge of snacks. 🍕

We recently designed this Triple Gable concept for a partner in the industry and honestly, this one was fun.

It’s a complex, beautiful design that takes a standard roofline and turns it into something that actually feels custom-crafted.
Which is exactly why design matters. Because a few intentional design moves can completely change the presence of a home & once the vision is clear, everything else follows.

This is where it starts for us. Before materials, before construction… with a plan that you can see & makes sense.

At Build the Burgh, we don’t just "estimate" projects. We engineer the vision from the first render to the final nail. If you’re looking at these designs and wondering what the build process looks like when the designer and the builder are the same team, we’re here to show you.

If you’ve been thinking about updating your space, we can show you what it could look like first.

We’ve featured these lights before… and we’ll probably keep doing it because Ericka is obsessed.

Also because every time we install them, they just work.

This is a behind-the-scenes look at a current lighting package mid-install so nothing is staged, just the process. But even at this point, you can already see how the space is going to come to life once the sun goes down.

That’s the part most people don’t think about early enough.

Lighting isn’t something we tack on at the end. It’s what makes the space actually feel complete.

✔️ Steps that guide you without thinking
✔️ Warm zones that naturally pull people together
✔️ Subtle accents that make everything feel finished (not overdone)

We use these lights again and again. Not because they’re trendy, but because they are able to consistently create that warm, dialed-in look whether its dusk or dark.

Some things just earn their spot in the rotation. These are one of them.

And when it’s planned from the beginning, your space doesn’t just look good during the day, it actually works at night too.

There’s a specific magic that happens when the structural bones start to overlap. We aren’t just framing a roof today, we’re threading the needle between a custom deck with an outdoor kitchen and a gable-into-hip roof transition.

Seeing these lines come together is where the vision meets reality. It’s not just about throwing up lumber—it’s about the precise engineering required to make a massive structure feel like a natural, permanent extension of the home.

The foundation is solid, the roofline is set, and the kitchen is taking shape. Who’s ready to see the finish materials go on?

📏 Not every project needs a full architectural overhaul. Sometimes, your front porch just needs a fresh face. 🌚

We swapped out the weathered decking and rails for PVC Porch Planks in Coastline and aluminum rails to match. Now our client has a fresh front porch to decorate, wave to the neighbors and watch the seasons change.

What does a 'Frictionless' project look like?

It looks like a 10ft accordion door that makes your living room feel 20 feet wider.
It looks like a new gable roof with Certainteed shingles that match your existing roof and Owens Corning ice and water protection underneath.
It looks like Insulated rafters to future proof your roof for later enclosure if you decide to.
It looks like a Canvas Natural Amber beadboard ceiling with Kitami beams & posts, built on our standard ultra-sturdy 12" on-center rafters and Canvas 1x Natural Amber ridges to match the ceiling for a little razzle dazzle.
It looks like an integrated electric heater that turns a "summer deck" into a year-round lounge space.
Most importantly? It looks like the screenshots on Slides 3 and 4.

Finshing up a our latest project- a total footprint-for-footprint rebuild for clients who absolutely loved their view. Honestly, its easy to see why. It's basically a postcard.

They didn’t want a new layout, but they reached their limit with the wood maintenance-managing cycle every year & they wanted their time back.

So we swapped out all the pressure treated wood for a setup built to last.
Our team was able to engineer a sleeker design by using pressure treated LVL components helping us achieve beam spans to reduce the amount of posts while adding strength and longevity.
Then we installed PVC in American Walnut and paired it with textured bronze aluminum railings to keep those sightlines open. Now all they have to do is wait for the rest of the snow to melt, grab a coffee and enjoy the scenery.

❄️ Cold weather but warm vibes 🔥

We paired Owens-Corning durability with TimberTech style to create a custom gazebo that our clients never have to winterize.

This custom gazebo features:
❄️TimberTech Canvas Ceiling: For that high-end indoor feel, outdoors.
❄️Owens-Corning shingles to ensure this retreat stays dry and cozy 365 days a year.
❄️Smart Lighting: Can lights with built-in night lights (our personal favorite detail).

Who says hot tub season has to end in September?

✨Backyard Bliss - From Cramped to Captivating✨

This is one of our favorite builds!

When we first met with this client, they felt like their space was small and cramped and unusable, but where they saw a tight awkward space, we saw potential. It needed to be more than just flat ground. It needed levels, flow and a wow factor.
Luckily for us, they knew they wanted tigerwood decking - a rich, tropical hardwood that brings warmth and durability. We contrasted that with black aluminum rails for a modern open feel.
The multi-level design completely changed the scale of the space, turning an unused space into the perfect spot for morning coffee, evening cocktails and even weekend entertaining.

Now their cramped yard feels expansive, luxurious and tailored to them.
A good design makes all the difference.
