Before you switch your thermostat from cooling to heating, take a few minutes to check a few things first.
✓ Replace your air filter if it's dirty.
✓ Make sure your thermostat is set to Heat and test that it's responding properly.
✓ Clear away any boxes, storage bins, or other items around your furnace to allow proper airflow.
✓ Check that your air vents are open and free from furniture or rugs.
✓ Listen for any unusual noises and pay attention to any odors once the system starts.
The first time you turn on your heat, you may notice a slight burning smell. That's often dust burning off after sitting all summer. It should disappear after a short time.
If the smell lingers, your system struggles to heat your home, or you hear banging, rattling, or squealing noises, don't ignore it. Small issues are often easier to address before your heating system starts working harder on colder days.
If something doesn't seem right, we're here to help.
