Lawn Care — The Phoenix summer lawn care checklist (save this one)
August is when Phoenix lawns split into two categories: the ones that got the basics right, and the ones hoping fall will bail them out.
If you're managing your own Biltmore, Arcadia, or Sunnyslope lawn this summer — here's the full checklist worth running:
💧 Watering
☐ Timer running between 4–6 AM
☐ Deep-soak cycles (20–30 min per zone), not daily shallow sprinkles
☐ System adjusted after significant monsoon rain events
✂️ Mowing
☐ Blade height at 1.5–2.5" for Bermuda (3–4" for taller varieties)
☐ Never removing more than ⅓ of blade per cut
☐ Mower blade sharpened — dull blades cause disease and browning
🌱 Soil & Feeding
☐ Slow-release nitrogen applied in June–July
☐ Thatch layer under ½" (over that: time to dethatch)
☐ Compacted desert soil loosened for proper water pe*******on
💧 Drainage & Infrastructure
☐ Low spots and runoff zones checked before monsoon season
☐ Edging maintained to prevent bed encroachment
🔍 Monitoring
☐ Stress patches identified and treated before they spread
☐ Pest or disease signs checked bi-weekly
Missing three or more of these — especially in Moon Valley, North Mountain Village, or Paradise Valley Village — means your lawn is working against itself this summer.
Divine Design Landscaping can take the entire checklist off your plate.
