Did you see The Philadelphia Inquirer's great feature on VSBA's current work for the Curtis Institute of Music?

VSBA is beginning design for renovation of Curtis's Art Alliance building on Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square. After the building was gutted by fire, Curtis reached out to VSBA to develop a concept design for renovation of this heavily damaged building. Now we're moving ahead with the design.

Stayed tuned for more updates as design and construction move along! (Photos from the Inquirer and credited below.)

Happy July 4th and Semiquincentennial!

Here’s a rendering of a classic Venturi, Scott Brown design. Any guesses what it is? Big hint: it wasn’t built.

Guess away!

Happy birthday (yesterday) to BOB VENTURI, who would have been 101 years old!

Please join VSBA Architects & Planners as we celebrate “STARDUST” -- a new film exploring the incredible partnership of Bob Venturi and Denise Scott Brown!

“Filmed over a decade by their son, this funny, moving documentary chronicles the fifty-year love story and creative partnership between Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, whose embrace of complexity, symbolism, and the lessons of the everyday landscape changed the course of architecture. Directors Jim Venturi and Anita Naughton will join us for a post-film conversation.”

Stardust will be screened at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute (Bryn Mawr, PA) on Tuesday, Apr 21, 2026 7:00 PM.

Be there!

After years of weather and wear along Philadelphia’s Spring Garden Street, it was time to restore the iconic “GUILD HOUSE” sign on Robert Venturi’s historic 1964 building. VSBA collaborated with Vitam Signs to renovate the main sign above the entry as well as the balcony guards.

We created full size templates to replicate the existing artwork then painstakingly matched colors to the original paint. The original bent metal guards were demounted, sandblasted to remove rust, refinished with high quality automotive paint, then reinstalled.

We expect the refurbished sign and guards should last decades before needing another refresh.
