If you have used a mower to move leaves then you know that running into buried stumps and roots can be very destructive to your mower, not to mention serious tripping hazards. Get the smaller or lower stumps before the leaves fall.

I put together this large tree visual to illustrate what can go on beneath a tree stump. From above, a tree stump can look like it's only 30'' in diameter but below it can be a different story.
