Many winter sowers will recommend you not use white containers because they let in less light than more transparent jugs. I say use what you have on hand! But interestingly, this unintentional experiment showed that the same seeds grew quite a bit less successful in the less translucent jug (I'm not sure if the white jug is fully opaque).
