The following was a Facebook memory from 4 years ago when my crew and I were putting the finishing touches on Cat Island Books and Coffee Shop. It was the communication process developed to cut every piece of Artisan siding on the front of the building..

โ€œDo you know what the following means? "From the 4 degree angle an inch and three quarters from the top, it's 32 1/8 inches to the short point of the long point"! Jesse and Orion and I have had to develop a whole new vocabulary to cut this Artisan siding on so many non-square angles. The first row is always a challenge. Oh, "and is that miter a 45 degree angle in or out and is it a 6 degree or an 8 degree angle up or downโ€?

Check it out if youโ€™re local and have an interest!

Our latest, easy-access, ergonomic shower. Note the glass wall instead of a sliding or swinging door and the volume and temperature controls are at the entry end and the shower head and hand-held device are at the drain end. No more standing in cold water!

Somehow or another, while trying to send six bathroom pics to a client, I managed to send 82 pictures of a whole host of items to everyone instead. They are really nothing so don't bother to look at all 82 pics! I'll also add that I HATE iPhoto. I may never take another picture!๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•

Do you remember the poem about Paul Revere something like "for want of a nail the war was lost"? Well, here is a photo illustration of "for want of a 10 sqin piece of flashing, the wall was lost, termites got to feast on the resulting rot and it caused quite a mess". The photo at left shows the J-channel (which keeps water from getting behind the siding) on the left side of a third-floor window. The water that comes down the J-channel runs onto that small piece of vinyl and onto the nailing fin of the next course of vinyl siding, providing a harmless path for water to get out. The photo on the right shows the right side of the same window without the flashing. The result? Severe rot to the sheathing (and framing!) below the window. How far did that rot and damage go? Photos 3 and 4 show the damage going all the way to the floor on the lower level. How was this detected? Termites had gotten into the wet wood and eaten their way into the living room where the client noticed the infestation and called us.

The best (or worst, depending upon your view) about this job? We do the same thing on the other end of the house this week! I'll keep you posted and try to make sure I take better pictures!

The scariest part for all of you homeowners? I've almost never seen the little flap of vinyl that directed the water to the siding! Could your house be next? Termites don't always make the mistake of revealing themselves!
