A beautiful home isn’t always a high performing home. Our industry has become exceptionally good at creating beautiful spaces. There are endless resources to help homeowners choose finishes and designers who make selecting them almost effortless. That’s a good thing. But while we focus on what goes on the walls, we spend far less time on what goes behind them. Building science deserves the same level of planning, investment, and attention that we give to finishes. Air sealing, insulation, thermal bridging, ventilation, humidity control, HVAC design, these aren’t visible, but they determine whether a home is comfortable, healthy, energy efficient, and durable. Here in Florida, our climate punishes a weak building envelope. Heat, humidity, wind-driven rain expose every shortcut. Materials and mechanical systems today are better than ever, but even the best equipment can’t overcome poor design or poor ex*****on. A high-performing home isn’t the result of one premium product.
