"We want a hanger home, but we don't want it to look like a hanger home" was how the conversation started....A perfect challenge for Falcon's design team.

Every client has a different set of priorities and needs, and this project showcases a true custom home design/build project. Incorporating in the desired Tudor style was the icing on the cake.

Lots of creativity went into this one, and we are very pleased with the results!

These clients were gracious enough to let us come back to photograph their furnished and landscaped Falcon Design + Build in Eagle River!

This home won the AHBA 2025 Golden Hammer award! Awards are awesome, but the accolades that mean the most are from the happy clients that hired us to build their dream home. THAT'S always the very best reward!

Fourth in our Chugiak addition and remodel series.

The master bathroom was the crowning jewel on this project.

The new addition provided plenty of room for the master suite, with access off the existing switchback landing stairs.

Transom windows were included to allow for abundant natural light and mountain views from within the shower and closets. Warm floors via SunTouch heat mats were installed under the tile.

The tile design was "dry set" on the floor prior to installation to confirm the layout, colors and design. The large (and very heavy!) stone tub was placed inside the wet room, and stone sinks were included in the vanity.

A built in reading nook was added as well, offering this luxurious master suite all the amenities of a spa like retreat!

Third in our Chugiak addition & remodel series:

A bigger kitchen with more space was one of the primary needs with the remodel. The existing space was too cramped and it didn't flow well. How could we achieve this without moving exterior bearing walls or other overly costly options?

The solution was to move the garage entrance so that instead of coming directly into the kitchen it would come into and share the existing entry, and also to move the 1/2 bath entrance to the hallway at the base of the stairs vs coming directly into the dining room.

This allowed for an expanded kitchen with significantly more space, allowing for a walk-in pantry, double ovens, and a beverage fridge/coffee bar - a huge improvement to the previous layout!

Adding in a cat feeding and watering station helped keep things clean and organized!

The second post in our Chugiak addition and remodel series.

A fun feature! An amazing Tulikivi soapstone masonry wood stove with a built-in bake oven!
This unit is quite impressive, and no small feat to install. To begin with, a heavy concrete footing needed retrofitted into the existing crawl space to support over 10,000 lb. of weight.
The hot flu gases on these fireplaces are intentionally routed through a long maze of soapstone chases before exiting the home: From the firebox, the flu gases first travel up to the top of the stove, then down again to the bottom where it then splits, traveling down and back inside each soapstone bench, coming together again under the stove before finally exiting in a traditional stove pipe.
With the amazing properties of soapstone, a fire can be lit once a day and heat is stored in the mass of soapstone where it then dissipates over an extended period of time.
The bake oven feature above the firebox allows for high temp roasting immediately after firing, or slow overnight cooking as the oven gradually cools.

This is sure to make for some cozy winter evenings!

First post on our Chugiak series...

Adding onto a home so it's NOT obvious is the goal, the mark of a professional designer. Both the exterior and interior should appear and feel seamless.

The new addition space holds a master bedroom, large master bathroom with walk-in closets, and the daylight basement has a theater room and office. The remodel portion included modified the existing bathroom(s), the sewing/craft room, a totally new expanded kitchen, and a walk-in pantry.

A custom soap stone wood burning fireplace was added (more on that later) along with new finishes throughout!

Large, complex addition/remodel projects require vision and creativity and a thorough understanding of construction. It also helps to have a proven 6 step process, to ensure aligned expectations and predictable results!

We always feel lucky to be part of a dream! A new custom home going up on 80 acres!

Engineering required some specialty steel "moment" (frames) on some of the great room walls. Custom metal fabrication and framing performed by the Falcon crew.

ICF construction can be a great wall assembly in Alaska.
Insulated Concrete Forms = solid concrete walls surrounded by insulation. Stronger, quieter, and more energy efficient than traditional framing. If you're curious whether it's right for your build, we'd love to talk.
