It did not rain. 😂 So I painted.

I've been moved by the Game of Thrones Main Title by Ramin Djawadi for quite a while, and I've been wanting to create a dance painting to it.

I started with the Game of Thrones Main Title, then added the main title music from Pacific Rim also by Ramin Djawadi because I knew I would be painting for quite a while. But it didn't gel.

So I went back to the Game of Thrones Main Title — the one piece that felt right — and played it on repeat for the entire hour. Poor Jerry. 😂

Here is an edited video of the painting process and the resulting paintings.

And that's how Ostinato I & II came into being.

An ostinato is a musical phrase or rhythm that repeats throughout a piece of music. The repetition became part of my painting experience too — rhythm, movement, repetition, response.

Ostinato is part of my ongoing Embodied Painting practice, where movement, music, and intuition become the process of painting.

ArtPrize Grand Rapids 🎨

Jerry and I spent 3 days exploring ArtPrize, and there was so much amazing and unexpected art everywhere we looked. Of course, I took WAY too many photos! 😂

This piece was one of our favorites.

“Be part of our art!”

Visitors were invited to write the name of a loved one who had passed onto a white bean and add it to the artwork for Día de los Mu***os.

Jerry and I each wrote the names of our mothers. ❤️

I loved the idea that the artwork grows through the memories of everyone who participates. It becomes something you don’t just look at—you become part of it.

As an artist, that really resonated with me. ❤️

We came to Cabela’s to buy fishing lures. I like to photograph them because… **ART. 😂🎨**

Apparently even fishing lures can be inspiring!

Artomatic 419 was an amazing experience for me—and a pretty big milestone as an artist. It was the first time I’ve shown my artwork in public, and I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect.

I was so encouraged by the comments and conversations I had with people who stopped to look at my work. Some of the conversations were really meaningful, and I made some wonderful new friends along the way. ❤️

One of my favorite parts of the experience was being surrounded by so much creativity. I loved walking around and discovering the work of other artists—seeing different approaches to materials, color, texture, composition, and ideas.

I took photos of some of the pieces that caught my eye, inspired me, or simply made me stop and look a little longer. So I wanted to share a few of them here.

There was so much talent and individuality throughout Artomatic 419. I came home feeling inspired, energized, and excited to keep creating.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared a thought, asked a question, encouraged me, or simply took the time to look. And thank you to all of the artists who made the experience so inspiring.

And a big thank you to The Arts Commission for making Artomatic 419 possible. ❤️

What a wonderful way to begin this next chapter of my art journey. ✨

Behind the Scenes at Artomatic 419 🎨

Getting ready for an exhibition is a lot more than just making the art! 😂

I thought I'd share a little of what has been happening behind the scenes as I've been getting my booth ready for Artomatic 419.

🎨 Day 1 — Starting with a blank canvas

Day 1 was all about getting the space ready. We painted the walls and set up the table with my business cards and information for visitors.

At this point, it was hard to imagine what the finished booth would look like.

📐 First, I had a plan…

I spent quite a bit of time before arriving creating a detailed PowerPoint layout of my booth. I measured my artwork and planned exactly where I wanted each piece to go.

I thought I had it all figured out.

Then I arrived and discovered the little ledges on the walls! 😂
Time to adapt the plan.

🔨 Day 2 — Installation Day

Jerry came along to help me install everything. There was a LOT of measuring, positioning, stepping back, looking, adjusting… and doing it all over again.

Having another set of hands — and another set of eyes — was a huge help, he ended up doing most of it since I was very stressed lol.

We finally got everything installed, and I was so excited to see the booth coming together.

And then…

We took it all down. 🤦‍♀️

My neighboring artists had not installed their booths. I didn’t want any of my artwork crashing to the ground while they were installing theirs as happened while we were there with another artists work!.

So everything came back down.

📖 Day 3 — The little details

Day 3 was about some of the finishing touches, including setting up my visitor book.

I wanted to have a place where people could leave a comment, share a thought, or simply let me know they stopped by.

And, naturally, I forgot to take a picture of the finished visitor book! 😂

❤️ And this is where we ended up…

After all the planning, measuring, adapting, installing, taking down and re-installing, the booth finally came together.

I'm really happy with how the space turned out and how the different bodies of work look together.

And I'm especially grateful to have had Jerry helping me through all of this. ❤️

Tomorrow is opening night!

I'll be back at 3 PM to reinstall the artwork one more time, with everything required to be finished by 5 PM.

Then the doors open.

Artomatic 419 — here we come! 🎨❤️
