🌀 **Hurricane Preparation: Lowering Your Pool’s Water Level**
Tropical Sun Pools clients and friends: With hurricane weather approaching, lowering your pool’s water level can help make room for heavy rainfall. Follow the instructions below for your filter type **before severe weather arrives and only while conditions are safe**.
**Sand filter clients:**
1. Turn the pump **OFF**.
2. Set the filter valve to **BACKWASH**, then turn the pump on.
3. Run the pump until the water reaches approximately **1 inch above the bottom of the skimmer opening**.
4. Turn the pump **OFF**, then return the valve to **FILTER** (normal operation).
5. Turn off the pool system at the **breaker panel**.
**Cartridge filter clients with an installed discharge valve:**
1. With the pump running, open the designated **discharge valve**.
2. Allow the water to drain until it reaches approximately **1 inch above the bottom of the skimmer opening**.
3. Close the discharge valve, then turn off the pool system at the **breaker panel**.
⚠️ **Monitor the water level the entire time. Never change a sand filter valve’s position while the pump is running, and do not drain your pool below the level specified above.**
Hurricane winds can send leaves, branches, and other debris into your pool, clogging the skimmer basket. We recommend keeping the system **OFF at the breaker panel during the storm**.
Once conditions are safe, remove debris, clean the skimmer basket, and restore the water to its normal operating level before restarting the system.
