Nobody sees the hardest part of growing a forest. 🌱
Before a seedling ever touches soil on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, it's already spent 6-18 months in a nursery, watered, watched, and slowly hardened off until it's tough enough to survive on its own. People often focus on the planting, overlooking everything that is required before and after a tree goes into the ground.
That's the real cost of restoration.
We built our Tree Subscription around that truth and today, we’re launching more ways to get involved. Pick your own sliding scale option, from $5 to $50 a month. Prefer to make a bigger commitment? You can also choose an annual subscription.
At $25 and above, you fund at least one resourced native tree on the Big Island each month: ʻōhiʻa lehua, koa, wiliwili, and others, from seed collection through years of care and monitoring. Below $25, contributions build toward a complete tree over time.
A forest doesn't come back all at once. Fungi first, then insects, then birds, then everything else. We think funding it can work the same way: a lot of people, showing up for what they can afford.
