Last year we took on a heavy-duty work bench for the center piece of our studio. This bench is the first major project in our shop, so we really wanted to work on our skill set with this one. It should stand the test of time. All the wood was reclaimed lumber from the barns on the property. We spent a lot of time sorting through the wood to find boards and beams that would work. We removed nails/rot from damaged boards, filled any Holes or voids with epoxy, and planed/squared every board. The fact that all the boards are different only increased the difficulty. We had to adjust the tools for each cut and the measurements for the joinery were inconsistent. It took a lot of time checking the layout of joints. In the end it all pieced together really well and glue up was not crazy difficult. Up to this point of the bench build everything is wood joints, meaning no screws or hardware. I estimate the bench weighs nearly 400lbs. Throughout this year we will adding wood vices with wood acme screws, drawers, planner shelfs, and a ton of dog holds.

The weather is breaking and it's time to get back out to the shop. Tons of projects in the works. We are currently working on a few cedar outdoor benches for the gardens. Also acquired stathes from decommissioned whiskey barrels. We plan on making dart board cabinets, chairs, and other cool projects out of those. Also have a pallet of Osage orange that will be ready to kiln dry this season. If you have any ideas feel free to share.
