What do drone operators do when they aren't flying for business? Spying on the neighborhood? Nope! They're melting twisted paperclips into mangled 3D reject prints of Star Wars Tie Fighters and cine-whooping them around the back (mostly) yard!

It's been almost two years of preparation, buying six drones (every one needs a backup, right?), learning to fly those drones, taking business courses, studying for and getting my FAA Part 107 UAS pilot's license, and flying, and flying, and flying.

After years a' preparin' it's time to be an overnight success!

My chosen business vertical is drone construction services.

I'm going to focus on construction services because I spent thirty years in IT operations perfecting parallel skills.

I learned systems administration, organizing data and hardware, and how to do a lot of what gets done in managing a construction site, or at least in supporting the management of a construction site. I know how to adhere to schedules, how to program surveillance systems for mapping and 3D photogrammetry. I know how to set up repeatable waypoints to track site inspection progress over time. And I know how to manage materials inventory because I did that same things with computer hardware inventory.

I'm excited!

I followed FAA regulations, keeping my drone below 400' AGL by staying close to the mountain, and obtained this incredible 360º view north of Upper Bridal Veil Falls. To help me to remain within the rules without risking my DJI Air 3S, I conducted a preflight with my DJI Avata 2 sticking to the tops of the trees to this outcropping, and then followed the same path with the Air. Sometimes following the rules produces an incredible image not possible otherwise!

This is a slice of a DJI Air 3S 35º 70mm ƒ2.8 lens 360º panoramic photograph post processed with Panovolo software. I include it to prove that I was actually less than 400' from the ground beneath the Air 3S, even while up the canyon slope, hugging it to get a shot that otherwise is impossible without bending the rules. No rules bent here!

I'm always impressed with what I can find in the Utah County skies!
