Hey friends and family, I want to give you a heads up about a price increase that is happening January 2025 as a result of the EPA mandating new refrigerant requirements, and the phase out of units using R-410A refrigerant .
The new regulations are intended to reduce the environmental impact of HVAC systems and combat climate change. However, the new regulations are also expected to increase the cost of manufacturing HVAC equipment by up to 20%, which will be passed on to consumers.
Here are the specifics:
The new refrigerant that will replace R-410A in most residential HVAC systems will be R-454.
New equipment:
Manufacturers will need to redesign their equipment to work with the new refrigerants. This will include adding leak detection sensors for safety concerns with the new slightly flammable refrigerant.
Installation:
HVAC companies will need to purchase new equipment and tools to work on the new systems.
Compatibility:
Old and new equipment will not be compatible.
To prepare for these changes, you can:
Keep your system in good condition through regular maintenance.
Consider replacing your system early to avoid higher costs
If you have been putting off replacing your old unit, now is a great time. If you have questions about how this new mandate might impact you, give me a call.
Thank you!
