This shower demo had us nervous from the start. A shower less than 5 years old was already failing, and we’re here to make it right.

As we deconstructed the existing tile work, we noticed:
- No waterproofing membrane on the walls
- Improper shower pan installation on the floor
- Drywall used as backer material inside the shower
- Spot-bonded tile instead of directional troweling
- Electrical wires buried in the niche (in a wet area)
- Missing subfloor below the shower pan

As the saying goes… “Do it right or do it twice.”

The client was smart enough to notice the issues and stopped using this shower a while ago. Luckily there was no significant water damage thanks to that. A few replacement studs, a new curb, and some updated subfloor have this shower ready for new tile and - more importantly - peace of mind for the homeowner.

Cabinets are set, hardware is in, and we are ready for our paint and countertop partners to bring this new peninsula together.

This was a fun one! The custom trim on the top of the living room side was designed to match the drawers on the kitchen side.

Stay tuned for the final finish soon!

A closer look at the basement bathroom in this renovation

What was once a dark, dated space is now bright, clean, and fully refreshed. Every finish was chosen to make this bathroom feel more elevated while still tying in with the rest of the basement design.

Some favorite details:
• Floor-to-ceiling shower tile
• Shower niche tile that matches the bar backsplash
• Frameless glass shower door
• Sconces above the mirror for a softer, more custom feel

Last part of the series: the basement bathroom

This bathroom started out feeling dark and dated, with dark blue tile, dark paint, and a cracking shower insert. Reworking the finishes completely transformed the space and made it feel brighter, cleaner, and much more elevated.

For the renovation, we:
• Replaced the old shower insert with floor-to-ceiling tile in the shower
• Used shower niche tile that ties back to the bar backsplash from an earlier reel
• Added a frameless glass shower door for a more open feel
• Swapped the overhead mirror light for sconces to create a softer, more custom look

A small space, but such a big transformation to finish off the basement.

Next up in the series: the finishing touches.

Sometimes the final details are what completely transform a space. In this basement, a few thoughtful design choices helped make everything feel more polished, cohesive, and intentional.

For the finishing touches, we:
• Removed the drywall ceiling and painted it black to create the illusion of more height
• Added square trim at the top of the drywall to create a clean transition between the walls and ceiling
• Painted the walls, trim, and doors all the same color for a color-drenched look that helps the space feel taller
• Added a custom built-in closet at the base of the stairs for extra function and storage

These details may seem subtle, but they made a huge impact on how the basement feels as a whole.

A closer look at the living space in this basement renovation.

Expanding the media wall to close in a spare bedroom completely changed how this area functions and made the basement feel much more intentional as a whole.

Some of our favorite details:
• Picture frame trim around the TV
• Custom TV stand, coffee table, and end tables
• Built-in shelving for added storage and display

The custom details made this space feel polished, functional, and truly built for the home.

Next up in the series: the living space

One of the biggest transformations in this basement came from reworking the layout. We expanded the media wall to close in a spare bedroom, which helped create a more intentional and functional main living area.

From there, we layered in custom details to make the space feel finished and built for how it’s actually used:
• Picture frame trim around the TV
• A custom TV stand, coffee table, and end tables
• Custom built-in shelving for extra storage

This space is proof that smart layout changes and thoughtful millwork can completely transform how a basement lives.

A closer look at one of our favorite spaces in this basement renovation.

The basement bar was designed to feel equal parts functional and elevated, with every detail adding to the overall look and feel. From the fern green shaker cabinets to the biscotti subway tile, this space quickly became one of the biggest statement moments in the basement.

Next up in the series: the basement bar.

This space is proof that the right details can completely transform a basement bar.

For the bar, we added:
• Green shaker cabinets
• Board and batten trim
• White and brown quartz countertops
• Biscotti subway tile taken to the ceiling
• Floating shelves with integrated LED lighting

Every detail helped turn this into a statement moment in the basement. 🍸

We’re kicking off a new series diving deeper into our basement renovation.

First up: the layout. Sometimes the biggest impact in a renovation isn’t the finishes—it’s the floor plan. A smart layout can completely change how a space feels and functions.

In this project we:
• Moved the bar from the back corner to the front to improve the flow
• Extended the media wall to enclose a spare room
• Pushed the closet back to create a larger landing at the bottom of the stairs

Proof that sometimes the layout does the heavy lifting.

Follow along as we break down each part of this renovation.
