As we continue to grow, we never want to forget where it all started. 🛠️💛

Mike got his start in construction right out of high school in Michigan, learning the trade from the ground up and building a real love for transforming homes. After earning his GC license and running his own business there, he made his way to Oak Island, where he spent six years managing construction, maintenance, and renovations for vacation homes.

In 2016, MJ Construction was born.

Since then, the work has grown, but the reason behind it hasn’t changed: doing what we say we’ll do, showing up for our clients, and taking pride in turning something old into something beautiful again.

Brunswick County became home, and this business has become something we’re proud to build for our family, our two boys, and the people who trust us with their homes.

The renovation detail nobody thinks about until it’s too late ↓

Outlet placement.

It may not be the most exciting part of planning a renovation, but it can make a huge difference in how a space functions once you’re living in it.

Before the walls are closed up, we’re thinking about the real-life details:
• Where will you charge your phone at night?
• Will there be enough outlets for countertop appliances?
• Do you need one inside a pantry, kitchen island, or bathroom drawer?
• Where will the TV go, and how will you hide the cords?
• Would an outlet on the porch, in the garage, or near a vanity make life easier?

Moving or adding electrical after the fact is possible, but it’s much easier to plan it from the beginning.

The difference is always in the details.

• Are the tile lines straight and evenly spaced?
• Do the cabinet doors line up and close smoothly?
• Are the corners, trim, and caulk lines clean?
• Does everything feel intentional, from the outlets to the hardware placement?
• Was the work completed with the behind-the-scenes details in mind, too?

These details are a good indicator of the care, planning, and workmanship that went into the whole project, not just the parts you can see at first glance.

A renovation is a big investment. The details should reflect that.

WE’RE HIRING: Carpenter’s Helper / Construction Laborer 🛠️

We are looking for a dependable, hardworking person to join our team in Brunswick County.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn the construction trade. You don’t need years of experience. If you show up, work hard, listen, and take pride in doing things right, we’re happy to train the right person.

What you’ll help with:

• Day-to-day jobsite labor and cleanup
• Assisting with carpentry, repairs, renovations, and maintenance projects
• Loading, unloading, organizing materials, and keeping projects moving
• Learning alongside an experienced team

What we’re looking for:

• Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
• Someone who shows up on time and is ready to work
• A strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• Respectful, professional attitude
• Construction or carpentry experience is a plus, but not required

Pay:
$18–$20/hour
Depending on experience, with opportunities for pay increases as you learn, grow, and take on more responsibility.

Sometimes it’s the smaller updates that do the trick:

→ New trim or molding
→ Updated light fixtures
→ New cabinet hardware
→ A new backsplash
→ Updated interior doors
