WHEN YOU CALL EAST COAST GARAGE DOOR LLC. I WILL ALWAYS BE THE ONE TO ANSWER THE PHONE,IM THE ONLY EMPLOYEE! IM THE ONLY TECHNICIAN THAT WILL COME TO YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS,ALL BILLING IS DONE THROUGH A SECURE SYSTEM WITH MY HIC # (home improvement contractor license number).
I recently was contacted by a friend of a customer who thought they had been scammed. I offered to look over the bill and upon seeing the bill I confirmed they did indeed pay almost 10x what the repair should have cost! I offered to come out (free of charge) to inspect the repair and was shocked that for the price they were charged used springs were installed on their door,safety cables were removed and not reinstalled creating a potential danger when the springs fail again.
If your garage door system fails
1)it’s not the end of the world. Take your time and make sure you contact a reputable LOCAL company.
2)ask for their HIC #
3)get multiple quotes
4)do not allow any work to be preformed until a quote is offered.
5) trust your gut! If the price seems outrageous it’s most likely a scammer. Out of state numbers or calls from multiple number are also a 🚩
There are some great local companies who have done business with your friends and neighbors. Never hurts to ask for recommendations.
There is an active, widespread scam targeting both homeowners and legitimate local garage door service providers across New England and nation wide!
⚠️ How the Scam Works:
1. Fake Search Results & Website Hijacking: Fraudulent lead-generation sites (using names like DNR Garage Door, 24 Hour Garage Door Repair, Speedy Garage Door Repair, M & I Garage Doors, and variations claiming to represent major brands/manufacturers like Wayne Dalton, Amarr, and Overhead Door) are spoofing legitimate business names or ranking above them on search engines.
2. Intercepted & Redirected Calls: They are using Call-Forwarding spoofing or intercepting VoIP/web-based lines. When customers call expecting a reputable company, they are routed to a call center instead.
3. Impostor Technicians Showing Up: Scammers arrive at sales or service appointments pretending to be from the legitimate company you hired. They frequently arrive driving unmarked black trucks/GMC vehicles carrying MA,NJ,NYlicense plates (even when operating in CT.
4. Overcharging & Subpar Service(recently a homeowner paid $4500 for a job that should have cost under$1000). Unsuspecting homeowners are overcharged or subjected to poor work, which then damages the reputation of local, legitimate contractors.
🚨 What Homeowners Need to Do:
Verify Before Letting Anyone In: Always check that the vehicle matches the company branding and ask for official ID/credentials before allowing work to begin.
Double-Check Phone Numbers & URLs: Verify you are visiting official websites directly.
Report Impostors Immediately: If someone arrives claiming to be from a company but drives an unmarked vehicle with out-of-state plates, do not let them service your door and contact local law enforcement.
