Growing up in the 80s as a teen, I had a couple of passions; windsurfing and woodworking. I loved crafting things from scratch and using my own creations. I built my own windsurfers, I custom made home furniture, and used any opportunity to spend time at my next-door neighbor’s shed, having access to tools and have the ability to be creative (thank you Meir). After completing 4 years of service in
the Israeli Army, I traveled the world, and then life happened…I needed to grow up and become practical. Information systems and software development were skills in high demand, so I moved to the USA and learned computer information systems. I was fortunate to find a job and start developing my career. I had a successful career working with amazing people and delivering on big and meaningful software solutions for financial services and medical devices companies. I raised a beautiful family, bought a house, adopted 2 dogs, and lived the dream! However, something was still missing… I missed creating something tangible. I missed ‘working with my hands’. I missed working with wood. I was blessed to have the privilege to step away from the race, leaving my software career behind to open a woodworking business. I stared by working on building my dream boat – a 23’ feet mahogany runabout based on a Glen-L Belle Isle design. Through that project, I rediscovered my passion and expanded to home improvement, furniture and special custom-made projects. I am also restoring windsurfers from the 80s and (some will say) I am the only windsurfer on the Hudson River. I rediscovered my two passions windsurfing and woodworking and created GolanWoods. My mission is to expose people to woodworking. To teach adults and kids that taking a break from technology (and the virtual world) and spending time creating wood crafts is a wonderful, satisfying, therapeutic adventure. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing you can create something on your own for yourself and your loved ones to use and enjoy. You feel accomplished.
