🥶 Northshore Cold Weather Alert! 🥶
We’re heading into a serious cold snap with a low around -12° Thursday night and a high near -3° on Friday, with cold temps sticking around into next week.
To help your furnace keep up (and avoid breakdowns), here are a few quick tips:
✅ Replace your furnace filter (a dirty filter restricts airflow, which can cause your furnace to overheat and shut off)
✅ Keep your thermostat set to ONE temp (don’t lower it overnight or while away, it won't recover)
✅ Keep vents & returns clear (don’t block them with furniture, rugs, or curtains)
✅ Make sure all supply vents are open (especially the ones in your basement you closed during the summer because it was too cold down there)
✅ Check your furnace exhaust/intake pipes outside — drifting snow and ice can block them and cause your furnace to shut down
⚠️ Realistic expectations:
When temps hit negative numbers, even a perfectly working furnace may not be able to maintain 70° in every home.
If your house is above 60° and you’re getting warm air from your vents, your furnace is likely doing everything it can to battle the sub-zero temps. 💪🔥
