The calendar says fall. The roaches didn't get the memo.

Cooler mornings are a welcome change after a North Texas summer, but temperatures are still plenty warm enough for pest activity.

Cockroaches are influenced by more than temperature alone. Moisture, food, shelter and conditions around the home all play a role in where they're found.

If you're seeing occasional activity, pay attention to where you're seeing it. Garages, kitchens, bathrooms, utility areas and exterior entry points can give you clues about what may be contributing to the problem.

Seeing recurring activity? That's when it's worth figuring out why rather than simply treating the roach you can see.

Caught a mouse… only to see another one later?

Catching a mouse or rat takes care of that particular rodent, but it may not address why rodents are showing up in the first place.

Around North Texas homes, recurring rodent activity can be connected to things like accessible food and water, sheltered areas around the property, or entry opportunities around garages, rooflines, utility penetrations, and other parts of the home.

And rodents don't have to wait for cold weather to become active around your property.

Our latest article explains why mice and rats may keep coming back, what to look for around your home, and when recurring activity deserves a closer look.

It's finally nice enough outside to walk around the house without melting.

While you're out there, give your home's exterior a quick fall check.

Look for:
- Worn weatherstripping around exterior doors
- Gaps at the corners of the garage door
- Damaged window or vent screens
- Vegetation touching the house
- Areas holding moisture
- Openings around utility lines and exterior penetrations

Not every gap means you have a pest problem. But fall is a good time to spot small maintenance issues before they become bigger ones.

Five minutes. One lap around the house. You might be surprised what you notice.

Seeing new fire ant mounds pop up in your yard? You’re not the only one.

With the recent rain and cooler temperatures, our technicians are starting to notice more visible fire ant activity around North Texas properties.

Fire ants don’t suddenly appear because it rained. Colonies may already be established in the soil, but changing moisture and temperature conditions can make their mounds and activity much easier to notice.

So if it seems like a mound showed up overnight, it may be that you're simply seeing signs of a colony that was already there.

Keep an eye on lawns, landscaping, sidewalks and other areas where people and pets spend time outdoors.

And one important reminder: fire ant treatments are available separately from our General Pest Control service.

If you're seeing fire ant activity and want help addressing it, our team can walk you through the options.

Does pest season end when fall arrives in North Texas?

Not exactly.

Cooler mornings are finally here, but North Texas fall still gives us plenty of warm afternoons—and pest activity doesn't simply stop when the temperature starts to drop.

You may notice the type of activity or where you're seeing it begin to change. Spiders can remain active around patios and exterior lights. Ants and roaches may still be noticeable. Rats and mice are active year-round. And after recent rain, we're already seeing more visible fire ant activity around some properties.

Think of fall as a transition in pest activity, not the end of pest season.

We put together a new resource explaining what North Texas homeowners may notice this fall, why pest activity changes with the weather, and what to watch for around your home.

Seeing ants, roaches, or other pests around your home is one thing.

Figuring out why they’re there is another.

A dripping outdoor faucet, vegetation against the house, standing water, gaps around utility lines, or an area that stays damp can all create conditions that make your property more attractive to pests.

That’s why good pest control starts with more than simply treating the bug you see.

Our technicians look at the conditions around your home that may be contributing to the problem—then help you understand what can be done about them.

Because sometimes the best way to deal with a pest problem is to figure out what’s inviting it in the first place.

Stormy weather is headed our way—and you may notice some temporary changes in pest activity.

Several days of rain can disrupt the areas where insects normally live and forage. As soil becomes saturated and water moves through landscaping, ants and other pests may suddenly become more visible or show up in places you don't normally see them.

That doesn't necessarily mean your pest control stopped working.

Pest control helps manage pest populations around your home, but significant weather can temporarily change their behavior and where activity appears.

After the storms move through, give things a little time to settle and keep an eye on what you're seeing. Empty standing water around the yard, and pay particular attention to activity that continues or increases after conditions return to normal.

If you're a Myles customer and persistent activity continues, that's when it's worth reaching out so we can help determine what may be going on.

North Texas weather changes quickly. Sometimes pest activity changes right along with it.

Seeing more roaches around your home lately? You’re not the only one.

Changes in North Texas weather can push cockroaches to look for food, water, and shelter—and sometimes that brings them a little too close for comfort.

If you’re finding roaches inside, seeing them around entry points, or noticing more activity than usual, it may be time to take a closer look at where they’re coming from.

Does One Bug Mean You Have an Infestation?

You spot one bug in the house. Does that mean there are dozens more hiding somewhere?

Not necessarily.

One pest sighting doesn’t automatically mean you have an infestation. What matters is what kind of pest it is, where you found it, how often you’re seeing them, and whether there are other signs of activity.

For example, finding one cockroach in the garage can mean something very different than repeatedly finding cockroaches in the kitchen. The same is true for ants, spiders, and other common North Texas pests.

That’s why proper identification and inspection matter. Before deciding how to treat a pest problem, we want to understand what’s actually going on.

Not sure what you found or whether you should be concerned? Send us a photo or give our team a call. We’re happy to help you figure out the next step.
